摘要： In the making of hollow plastic articles wherein a label is positioned in each of a plurality of spaced partible molds, a preform is positioned in each set of partible molds and the molds are closed and the preform is blown outwardly into the confines of the mold to apply the label to the resultant hollow plastic articles, the method of handling the labels which comprises successively removing labels from a label magazine and positioning the labels in an array which corresponds in spacing to the spacing of the sets of molds, simultaneously moving said labels in the array from the first position to a second position within the open partible molds and depositing the labels in the molds. The apparatus comprises a magazine for supporting labels in a stack, an endless belt transfer device positioned adjacent the magazine, means for indexing the belt in predetermined spaces corresponding to the spaces of said molds, means for successively removing a label from the magazine and depositing it on the conveyor, the spacing between the labels on the endless transfer conveyor corresponding to the spacing between the sets of molds, and means for removing the labels simultaneously from said endless transfer conveyor and delivering them between the open partible molds.

摘要： Apparatus for applying labels in the molds of a plastic blow molding machine of the type wherein a plurality of sets of molds are mounted on a wheel rotatable about a horizontal axis. Mold sections are moved toward and away from one another to enclose a parison, and the parison is then blown to the confines of the cavity between the mold sections. The apparatus removes labels successively from one or more magazines, and deposits labels on an endless conveyor that transports the labels to a position adjacent an open mold. The apparatus laterally transfers the labels successively from the conveyor to a position within the mold section, such that when a mold closes about a plastic parison and the parison is blown, the labels become adhered to the blown plastic article. The label magazines are mounted in horizontal orientation, and the label pickup mechanisms are moved by a positive-action slider crank in a straight line for picking up and removing a label from the magazine, and in a straight line for delivering the label to the conveyor while the conveyor is stationary. The label placement apparatus is positively driven to remove the label from the conveyor while it is stationary and deliver it to the mold cavity.

A first transfer head removes the labels from the magazine in sequence and places the labels on the conveyor. A drive member indexes the conveyor to space the labels on the conveyor in a direction parallel to the cavity spacing by an amount corresponding to the spacing between the cavities. A carriage is disposed for movement from a first position adjacent the transfer conveyor to a second position adjacent the cavities of the split blow mold. The carriage has at least two second transfer heads operable in the first position of the carriage to pick up labels from the transfer conveyor and operable in the second position to deposit the labels into the mold cavities.
