    • The invention relates to a plasticizing and injecting device for a plastics injection molding machine comprising a rotationally driven plasticizing screw (8), which is arranged in an axially fixed manner, and an injection plunger (3), which can be moved forward and backwards inside the plasticizing screw (8) by means of a linear drive (1). The injection plunger (3) comprises, at its front end, a non-return valve (2), and an injection cylinder (7) is provided anteriorly of the plasticizing cylinder (9). The invention is characterized in that the non-return valve (2) can, by means of the injection plunger (3) for carrying out an injection processes, be moved forward and backwards inside the injection cylinder (7) between a rear position at the beginning of the injection process and a front position after completion of the injection process. In addition, a melt chamber (13) is formed between the front end of the plasticizing screw (8) and the non-return valve (2), and the melt chamber, during the injection process and during the holding pressure phase, forms an annular gap (30) between the injection plunger (3) and the injection cylinder (7) for receiving plastic melt as the plasticizing screw (8) continues to rotate during injection.

The plasticizing unit is in fluid communication with the injection cylinder for supplying the injection cylinder with plasticized resin. A valve is provided for selectively placing the injection cylinder in fluid communication with the mold and placing the plasticizing unit in fluid communication with the injection cylinder, wherein the valve exerts pressure on resin in the mold independently of the injection cylinder or plasticizing unit. The valve is actuated by relative movement between the mold and one of the injection cylinder and the plasticizing unit.

    • An injection molding machine includes a plasticating unit for plasticating a thermoplastic resin, and an injecting unit connected to the plasticating unit through a connecting passage to inject the plasticated resin into a mold. In the connecting passage, provided is a buffering unit for reserving the resin in an amount at least equal to the quantity of the resin injected per one shot. The plasticated resin is temporarily reserved in the buffering unit, and then, the reserved resin is fed to the injecting unit when the measuring is carried out, whereby the plasticating unit can be driven continuously simultaneously with the operation of the injecting unit and the mold. The molding cycle can shortened with the plastication efficiency being enhanced.

    • A plasticizing screw of an injection-molding machine, axially movable in an extruder barrel, is driven by a tubular input shaft via a splined quill partly retractable into the shaft with which the quill is coupled through an internally and externally splined bushing. Another such bushing is removably seated, for possible replacement by a similar bushing of different inner diameter, in an internally splined cup-shaped head of the quill and engages the splined rear end of the screw. The quill head rests via a thrust bearing against the front end of a nonrotatable tubular piston coaxially surrounding the quill and entering by its rear end an annular cylinder which is hydraulically connected with a pressure accumulator including a gas cushion. The accumulator creates a back pressure by which molding material, plasticized by the screw during the preceding phase in which the screw was repressed into a rear position, is introduced via a check valve into a shooting pot alongside the extruder barrel. Another tubular injection piston extends rearwardly into an annular injection cylinder, which is pressurized only briefly upon closure of the mold, and bears at its front end upon a plunger penetrating into the shooting pot whose effective capacity is determined by a manually adjustable backstop for the injection piston. Lubricating oil from a sump in a gearbox surrounding the input shaft is pumped by the reciprocation of the quill, through passages provided for this purpose, to spaces inside the input and inside the extruder piston communicating with each other through the splines of the quill.
