    • A mold for manufacturing interlocking, dry-cast concrete retaining wall blocks in an upright orientation comprises a mold box comprising two side walls joined to end walls to define a mold cavity, a top face, and a substantially open bottom face. Partitions configured to define a space between adjacent blocks or a space between a block and a side of the mold box extend parallel to the side walls of the mold box substantially from the top face into the mold cavity, to form first transverse portions of the profile of the top and bottom surfaces the blocks which do not include any undercut portion that would impede removal of the mold box in a substantially vertical direction. At least one removable insert comprises insert members which, when positioned in the mold box beneath the partitions, form remaining transverse portions of the profile of the top and bottom surfaces, the remaining transverse portions including at least one undercut portion. The insert members, when in position in the mold box for casting, are substantially in lateral alignment with respective bottom surfaces of at least some of the partitions and can be inserted and retracted through openings in an end wall of the mold box.

    • A method for manufacturing hollow-core concrete slabs, the method comprising: preparing a mould by suspending in the mould between first and second end-pieces a plurality of substantially parallel elongate void formers; filling the mould with a wet concrete mix up to the crown of the void formers; laying an inert pliable filamentary sheet on the surface of the concrete with filaments of the sheet extending transverse to the long axes of the elongate void formers, the filamentary sheet being restrained so as to resist movement of the concrete mix when the void formers are withdrawn from the mix; further filling the mould with the wet concrete mix over the filamentary sheet; and, subsequently forming hollow channels in the wet concrete mix by withdrawing the plurality of void formers from the concrete mix through the second end-piece.

    • A method of fabrication for precast concrete structural members, including providing an automated concrete structural member fabrication system, including at least one casting machine having a self-releasing mold which includes side walls and end dams which are pivotally movable from an open position to a closed position, and a bottom casting surface, where the bottom casting surface, the side walls, and the end dams surround a cavity when the side walls and the end dams are in closed position, and a removable mold core subsystem which is removably positionable within the cavity; moving the mold sides, the mold end dams and the bottom casting surfaces to a closed position; positioning the mold core subsystem within the cavity; filling the cavity with wet concrete; idling the casting machine until the wet concrete has achieved initial set to form an initial set concrete block; automatically releasing the self-releasing mold from the initial set concrete block; and removing the initial set concrete block from the casting machine.
