摘要： By providing a manufacturing method of an electrode for a honeycomb structure forming die including: preparing a thick plate-like electrode base body made of an electricity discharging material and having two surfaces; making a plurality of holes in the electrode base body at positions corresponding to flow-through cells; inserting processing electrodes into the holes, and discharging electricity from the insides of the holes toward side surfaces of the holes of the electrode base body to process the side surfaces of the holes of the electrode base body into shapes corresponding to the porous partition walls; whereby obtaining an electrode where a plurality of electrode cells partitioned by electrode partition walls appear on at least one of the surfaces thereof.

摘要： An electrode for machining a pattern in a workpiece has a conductive body with a lattice of closed cells and a plurality of open cells. The open cells are positioned at an edge of the lattice of closed cells. The closed cells are defined by interconnected webs, and the open cells are defined by fins extending from the interconnected webs. A thickness of the fins is less than a thickness of the webs. In use, the electrode is positioned at a plurality of locations on the workpiece, such that a position of the fins of the electrode at each location overlaps a position of the fins of the electrode at an adjacent location. The pattern is formed at each of the plurality of locations by passing electrical charges repeatedly between the electrode and the workpiece and advancing the electrode into the workpiece.

摘要： Secondary discharge slots are cut into the face of newly made or used extrusion dies such that the secondary discharge slots communicate transversely and longitudinally with primary discharge slots but do not communicate with the feed holes. The novel extrusion die arrangement is set forth for the production of ceramic honeycomb structures which produce a greater number of cells per square inch, protrusions on the cell walls, or a combination of both dependent upon the Primary Slots' Volume to Secondary Slots' volume ratio. The secondary discharge slots can produce honeycomb substrates with much greater surface areas, using an extrusion die with a significantly reduced number of feed holes and a greater number of discharge slots.

A plurality of individual die parts are each provided with discharge slots in a discharge face thereof of desired width and spacing, and then a plurality of such individual die parts are secured together in a desired alignment such that the discharge face of each of the plurality of die parts forms a continuous discharge face for the multi-part extrusion die.

摘要： Apparatus for forming thin-walled honeycomb structures is provided in the form of an extrusion die having an outlet face provided with a gridwork of interconnected discharge slots and an inlet face provided with a plurality of feed openings extending partially through said die in communication with said discharge slots. Extrudable material is fed to said die under pressure wherein the extrudable material flows longitudinally through the feed openings in the inlet face of the die and is directed thereby to the interconnected discharge slots communicating with the outlet face, wherein a portion of the material flows laterally within such slots to form a continuous mass before being discharged longitudinally therefrom to thereby form a thinwalled structure having a multiplicity of open passages extending therethrough.
