    • A tool or workpiece has a mounting collar open axially outward, formed with a radially inwardly directed angled flank, and having a radial outer surface of noncircular cross-sectional shape. A chuck has a body formed with an axially forwardly open socket shaped to receive the collar with the axes generally coaxial and having an inner surface of a noncircular cross-sectional shape substantially complementary to the shape of the collar outer surface. A plurality of jaws axially fixed in the socket have radially movable ends engageable inside the collar and each formed with a radially inwardly and axially outwardly directed face. A cam having a face centered on the axis is engageable with the jaw front ends such that axial rearward shifting of the cam presses the jaw front ends outward and thereby presses the jaw faces against the collar flank to lock the collar in the socket.

    • A rotary tool for chip removing machining, for example a milling cutter or a drill, includes a shaft, a holder, and a cutting part. The shaft has a conical seating arranged in its front end. The holder has a slightly conical recess, whose cross-sectional dimension decreases toward the open end of the recess. The cutting part has a slightly conical pin designed to be received in the recess and has a cross-sectional dimension which increases in the direction of the free end of the pin. The recess is formed by a wall which is elastically flexible in a radial direction. When the holder is drawn axially into the seating, the wall is flexed radially inwardly, causing the conical surface of the recess to tightly grip the conical surface of the pin and create an interference fit of the pin in the recess.

    • A tool mounting between a cutting tool, for example a drill, and a machine spindle, comprising a tool element and a tightening device. The tool element consists of a body and an expandable attachment tap. The attachment tap is formed with grooves to receive a gripping implement of a tool interchanging mechanism and with a through opening to receive an end portion of a pull rod. The tightening device comprises a pull rod movably mounted in an inner pipe and forwardly projecting resilient portions. During changing to an other tool the opening at the attachment tap (13) is moved over the end portion by means of the gripping implement while a wall of the opening of the attachment tap slip against the resilient portions until a stop pin on the tool shank engages the end surface of the end portion and the resilient portions snap into recesses in the hole wall. The gripping implement is then lifted away and the attachment tap is retained in a pre-centered position whereafter the pull rod is tightened for clamping of the tool shank in the inner pipe during two further centering procedures.
