    • Slurries of magnetic and nonmagnetic particles in water are treated in a high intensity magnetic separator including at least one turntable that defines at least one circular channel therethrough in which a matrix material is positioned. Rotation of the turntable in a generally horizontal plane about a generally vertical virtual axis causes the circular channel(s) to rotate through a plurality of magnetic and nonmagnetic zones generated by magnet members. Treatment slurry is directed into the channel(s) in one or more of the magnetic zones as the turntable rotates. A tailings fraction passing through the channel(s) in a generally downward direction in the magnetic zones is collected in tailings launders. Magnetic particles attracted to the matrix material in the magnetic zones remain in the channel(s) until they pass into an adjacent nonmagnetic zone, where the magnetic particles are washed from the channel(s) into concentrate launders.

    • A skimmer for removing oil and paramagnetic chips from a contaminated body of machine tool coolant. The skimmer includes a frame and an endless tube partially trained within the frame that defines a travel path. The path of the tube includes a first section within the body of coolant and a second section out of the body of coolant. The skimmer further includes a magnet disposed within the tube, a drive system mounted to the frame and operatively coupled to the tube to power travel of the tube, and a wiper connected to the frame at a position along the travel path. The wiper is advantageously positioned adjacent to the tube such that the wiper removes oil and metal chips carried by the tube. A receptacle is included that delineates a collection space positioned below the wiper to receive oil and metal chips.

    • A magnetic separator made up of a drum bearing a plurality of stacked spaced rings each having a U-shaped cross section in the form of an arc outwardly facing channels. An upper set of magnets and a lower set of magnets supported on the separator frame and extending into the channels and matrix module are supported on the rings in spaces between the rings. A mixture of magnetic and non-magnetic material is fed onto the matrix modules and first upper nozzles spray water on the matrix modules as the matrix modules pass between the upper magnets thereby flushing non-magnetic material. The second upper nozzles spray water on the matrix modules as the modules move away from the upper magnets so that magnetic material is flushed from the matrix modules and falls into the non-magnetic hopper. The magnetic material is fed from the hopper onto the modules of the matrix material between the lower magnets and the non-magnetic residue is separated from the matrix module by the lower nozzle as the material passes between the lower magnets. The magnetic residue is washed from the matrix material as the material moves out of the fields of the lower magnets. The magnetic residue falls into a receptacle. The rings may be fabricated from fiberglass and polymer resin. The rings are clamped in spaced relation by bolts and spacers. The matrix is accordion folded sheet material.

    • The invention relates to a matrix ring magnetic separator the induction bodies of which are formed by sieve nettings which are arranged vertically and stacked behind one another in the direction of the magnetic field in such a way that the intersections of the wires of one sieve netting are located on the free field of the adjacent sieve netting resulting in the formation of sieve netting assemblies which are springy in themselves in the direction of the magnetic field. Even at very high field strength gradients such a magnetic separator is distinguished by good possibilities for cleaning and can also be produced economically.
