    • Random value generation in a game is provided. A board game may include a random value generator capable of movement on a surface of a board. Such movement may be initiated at one location on the board and arrive at another location on the board before stopping. The random value generator may include a plurality of faces, each indicating a value in the game. When still or at rest, a face is exposed. The value displayed on the face is a first value in the game. In addition, the movement of the random value generator may also contact one or more game pieces standing on the board. The number of game pieces that are contacted by the moving random value generator may represent a second value in the game.

    • The board game apparatus is intended primarily to provide a game involving trading, negotiating, and sailing. In order that the principle of the invention can be readily understood, a single embodiment thereof is discussed. The object of the game is to accumulate wealth through transporting goods on a cargo sloop and trading with other players. The game apparatus allows the sloops to be realistically sailed from port to port purchasing and trading cargo. Movement of the sloop is governed by wind, tide, current and the skill of the player. An array of playing spaces arranged in a grid allows a plurality of paths between any two ports. Value of the cargo changes as it is transported from port to port increasing as the distance from the port of origin increases, which reflects the added cost of transportation. A doubling of cargo value occurs if the market for that commodity is cornered. Unforeseen events during the game may resupply cargo at ports. Thus, trading of cargo is stimulated. Eventually, cargo at the ports is depleted, sloops are removed from service, and the player with the greatest accumulated wealth wins the game.

    • The present invention is directed to a game having an instruction unit and a deck of game cards, with each card having game indicia. Game cards may be distributed to each participant, and each player in turn comparing the game indicia of the game cards to the game indicia of a top card of a discard pile. The game may further include discarding at least one of the game cards onto the discard pile if the game indicia of the player's game cards corresponds to the game indicia of the top card of the discard pile, and actuating the instruction unit to output a game instruction if the player determines that none of their game cards may be played on the top card. Still further, the game may include the player selecting additional game cards from the deck in response to the game instruction output by the instruction unit.
