    • A three-dimensional word game which is characterized by a base having a grid with one or more squares, selected ones of which are fitted with openings or projections for receiving and anchoring correspondingly-shaped, lettered blocks to facilitate vertical stacking and horizontal extension of the blocks together and spelling words. In a preferred embodiment, the blocks (typically cubes) are designed to connect by such elements as round and truncated pegs, snap flanges, threaded posts and internally-threaded post seats, dovetail slots and tabs, as well as by magnetic attraction. The blocks are typically provided with letters of the alphabet located on at least one side, to facilitate selectively connecting or interlocking the blocks, both vertically and horizontally, to spell words during progression of the game.

    • Chess pieces each with a detachable marker at the base of the piece to permit playing variations without the necessity of starting from move one of a diagramless game. The marker is removably attached to the piece, preferably by magnetic means, and the board is magnetically attenuated, such as a standard board ferric-metalized at the preferably non-playing surface, to retain the detached marker in the original square yet not interfere with piece movement or reunion of piece and its marker, and make detachment easy despite firm magnetic attachment of piece and marker. The marker includes a portion extending beyond the peripheral edge of the base of the piece so that the marker is visible, but not distractingly so, when attached to the piece to indicate the original position of the piece.

    • A game for two people, either adults or children, calculated to teach social and cognitive skills. A playing board is provided which is upright to allow players to play or manipulate from opposite sides. The board may be layers or laminations with corresponding or registering shallow recesses on each side. The shape of each recess may be that of a human figure, such as a cartoon figure or the like. Playing pieces are provided on each side, which are pieces corresponding to the pieces of a jig-saw puzzle, which can be fitted into the recesses to complete the figure on each side. Apertures are provided through the board and securement means are provided on respective playing pieces so that corresponding pieces on each side of the board when properly positioned in recesses can be held together by the securing means, which may be magnets, VELCRO or other means. Cooperative skills on the part of the players is required for complete and correct assembly or positioning of the parts on each side of the board.
