The game pieces are generally grouped in two different colors. The number of slats are generally the same as the number of apertures, and are preferably four or eight in number. The method of play by two players of apparatus involves each of the players taking turns that are selected from two possible moves: rotating a game piece in one of the apertures on one of the slats or linearly displacing one of the slats one stop. The game commences with all pieces on the board rotated to a neutral color, and with no home area for determining opening and winning of the game. A winner is determined when a player has a predetermined number of game pieces in a predetermined arrangement, generally four or eight in a row, or in a diamond or other configuration and where the configuration is not a home area. Also included is a virtual game board in which the game is controlled by a computer or group of computers as well as on the Internet.

    • A dynamic non-static game board is formed at the beginning of each game by the players each placing tiles having playing spaces which may have side walls. The walls create a maze configuration through which pieces move. To win, one must move all of one's pieces, 1-5 depending on difficulty level, from one side of the board and off the opposite side. A random number selection means such as dice indicates the number of spaces to be moved. On some turns at least one visual indicator for a “stack” move and another for side a “slide” move appear simultaneously with a number. A stack allows a player to stack a tile on top of an existing tile to alter the configuration of the maze. A slide allows a player to slide another tile into one end of one row, thus pushing an existing tile off the other end of the row and possibly altering the maze configuration. The strategy game may be programmed and displayed on a visual media such as a video game or on the world wide web.

    • A pocket-size chess set is disclosed, comprising a pair of identical panels pivotally secured at their inner edges to a narrow third intermediate panel, whereby the first two panels may be folded together to form a case with the third panel acting as a spine. Two slidable para-magnetic checkerboard halves are provided, on the top surface of each of the first two panels. Thirty-two chessmen are also provided. Each of the latter is provided with a magnetic element on its back and bottom surfaces. Thus, each chessman may be placed either horizontally or vertically on the checkerboard halves. The squares of the latter have a recessed portion and their margins are also recessed for the placing of captured chessmen thereon. The case is kept in closed position by the magnetic attraction of the chessmen for one another.

    • A game board having a two panel construction and its method of manufacture. A front panel and back panel constructed from a single piece of wood form the foundation of the game board, the panels being of a complementary generally polygonal profile with a portion of the periphery of the panels being beveled to form a plurality of keys when mated. A number of edge pieces having keyways adapted to engage the keys function to hide seams, add strength, and eliminate end checking of wood grain. Some edge pieces may also operate as hidden doors, concealing special channels. The front and back panels are formed from a common hardwood source and are mated in a manner such that their grain patterns match, while their grain expansion characteristics are opposing. The front panel has a cut-out region designed especially to receive and snugly retain a complementary shaped playing surface component. The front panel may also have a second cut-out region positioned above a cavity formed between the front panel and the back panel when mated, such that game accessories residing in the cavity may be manipulated by the user. For example, a score counter may be mounted in the cavity. Rectangular cavities are also used to house and dispense game pieces.
