    • A plunger-barrel apparatus is adapted for use within a syringe-in-syringe mixing system for mixing a two-part composition (e.g., a dental composition). A hollow plunger-barrel body has a continuous cylindrical wall defining an internal chamber for containing a first component. The body includes a plunger receiving end and a dispensing end. An integral sealing plug and rupturable membrane is disposed at the dispensing end of the body and include a sealing plug portion and a rupturable membrane portion that are integrally formed together as a single piece (e.g., formed of a single piece of elastomeric material). An associated syringe-in-syringe mixing system includes a first plunger, the hollow plunger-barrel body as described above adapted to contain a first component, and a syringe barrel configured to contain a second component. When assembled, the first plunger is slidably disposed within the hollow plunger-barrel body, and the plunger-barrel body is slidably disposed within the syringe barrel. The two components are initially separated by the rupturable membrane.

    • In various embodiments of a method for filling root canal spaces, the root canal spaces are cleaned and irrigated, for example, by any suitable endodontic procedure, and the irrigating liquid is not removed from the canal spaces prior to filling. In some embodiments, a hydrophobic filler material is introduced into the root canal spaces while they are filled with liquid. As the canal spaces are filled, the hydrophobic filler material displaces the liquid and drives it out of the canal spaces, towards the crown of the tooth, where it can be removed. The hydrophobic filler material may comprise magnetically responsive particles having a hydrophobic surface coating that are compacted into the root canal spaces by application of a magnetic force field. In other embodiments, hydrophilic filler material in a flowable phase is introduced into the canal spaces where it partly displaces and partly absorbs the irrigating liquid before solidifying.

    • A dental device and method are provided for applying gutta percha to a root canal of a tooth. The device includes an elongate filler member made of a biocompatible material capable of being cut so that the length of the filler member can be reduced to a desired length by a user of the device, in accordance with the length of the root canal, prior to insertion of the device into the root canal. A head portion of the filler member is of uniform thickness throughout the length thereof, and a distal end portion is uniformly tapered along the length thereof in a direction away from the head portion such that the filler member is without any discrete area of weakness throughout the length thereof. An outer sheath of thermoplastic gutta percha surrounding a portion of the distal end of the filler member. An indicator at the proximal end of the filler member assists the user in determining the portion thereof to be cut off to achieve the desired length.
