摘要： Cigarettes are perforated by being rolled along a row of pins which are excited, for example by being vibrated. Vibration may be towards and away from the cigarettes so that the pins penetrate as a result of the vibration; the depth of penetration may be varied to control the size of the perforations. Alternatively the vibration may be in a direction transverse to the axes of the pins. In either case the pins may be mounted on a flexible member having a resonant frequency equal to the frequency of vibration. The vibratorary drive may be an electro magnetic device or a piexoelectric crystal. An alternative form of excitation of the pins involves passing compressed air through the pins and into the cigarettes, the pins being tubular for that purpose.

The filter wrappers may be perforated by pins on a rolling plate and fluted drum between which filter portions cut from longer filter rods are rolled to stagger the portions so that they can then be pushed into a single row.

摘要： An apparatus and a method for making ventilated cigarettes. Either the cigarettes are perforated after assembly or the tipping paper is perforated before assembly. The position of the perforations as a group relative to the mouth end of the cigarette is adjustable to select a required degree of ventilation of the assembled cigarette. Automatic selection is effected by measuring the dilution of the assembled cigarettes and causing the perforator to be controlled accordingly. Perforation may be effected by pins mechanically, by spark discharge by laser or by electron beam.

摘要： A cigarette perforating mechanism which operates to perforate a cigarette after the filter final assembly in a cigarette making machine. Perforating points of V design are mounted adjustably so that the points may be set to different heights to make perforations of different size thereby to obtain better control of the depth and width of point penetration. The points are arranged on an arc and are made integral in a thin strip of sheet metal which is fixed in a rolling shoe. A rolling drum rolls the cigarettes over the shoe and the height-adjusted points to perforate the cigarette with holes to a preselected depth and width assembly depending on the preselected depth to which the V-shaped perforating points are driven into the cigarette.

摘要： A device for perforating packaged cigarettes, or the like, including a first housing member provided for defining a receiving area having an opening for receiving a package of cigarettes. A plurality of piercing needles are provided which are moveable relative to the first housing member to pierce the cigarettes. A safety plate member is provided covering the opening of the receiving area. The safety plate member is effective at a first position to block the movement of the piercing needles into the receiving area and at a second position to allow the package of cigarettes into the receiving area. The safety plate member is supported by at least two spring members for biasing the safety plate member towards the first position. The spring members are positioned on a central longitudinal axis of the safety plate member and have spring properties effective to allow steady and smooth movement of the safety plate member. Spacer members are provided for altering the space defined by the receiving area to accommodate various sized cigarette packages. A switch including a switch protrusion guided by a straight guide groove is provided for selectively raising and lowering the package of cigarettes so as to create perforations at different locations on the cigarette. The switch protrusion may be locked at a first and second position and an improved switch pad is provided having grip enhancing raised ridges.
