    • Patterns of two fabric layers are each recognized by a camera and the fabric layers are aligned to make these patterns agree in the transverse and longitudinal directions. According to the invention the influence of speed-related disturbance variables and pattern-related limitations during the generation of the signal is reduced. Two-dimensional images of the two fabric layers are recorded with a matrix camera each during a pause between feeds. The degree of congurence of the fabric layers according to the pattern is determined by two-dimensional cross-correlation analysis of the image points arranged in rows and columns. Aligning correction values are calculated from this degree. The edge distance of the fabric layers is determined with a section of the matrix sensors, which is a separate section in terms of evaluation. Based on the edge distance data, the lower fabric layer is adjusted to the correct distance continuously and the upper fabric layer is adjusted as needed. If slight inaccuracies are accepted and the computation operations are limited only to the areas that are of interest, the overall computation time can be considerably reduced.

    • Apparatus and method of positioning and holding a thread chain for sewing onto successively fed workpieces, a thread chain which had been sewn beyond the rear edge of a workpiece and had been cut off flush with the rear edge of the workpiece, is sucked into the suction aperture of a suction tube. The suction tube extends parallel to the stitch plate and has a suction aperture into which the severed thread chain is sucked. The tube is moved to a delivery position in which the thread chain is pressed against an elastic abutment. The suction aperture of the suction tube and the abutment form a clamp for the thread chain and the thread chain is pulled out of the clamp with a continued feed of the workpiece.

    • A method and an apparatus for sewing a waistband and applying it to a garment using a two-needle sewing machine and a blindstitch folding attachment for the waistband. A waistband is turned up to form the end of a waistband extension and is finished with a shaped seam in the region of the turnup edge. With the top sides lying one on the other, they are trimmed and then supplied by the blindstitch folding attachment to the needles spread out with the trimmed edge pointing in a feed direction. For feeding the waistband with the finished end of the waist extension to the needles, an auxiliary slide which is introduced into the blindstitch folding attachment is provided.
