    • The invention concerns a sewing machine having a sewing-material feeder to advance the material being sewn in a step-wise manner and having furthermore a drive shaft pivoting to-and-fro in order to intermittently move the sewing-material feeder in the direction of advance of the material being sewn. The drive shaft includes a radially projecting drive crank connected by a linkbar of corresponding length to an output crank pivotably supported on a sleeve to pivot about an axis parallel to the drive shaft. The sleeve is rotatably supported on an output shaft cooperating with the sewing-material feeder and can be rotated by means of a stitch-length adjustment device. The output shaft is also parallel to the drive shaft and is driven by the output crank through a transmission provided on the sleeve. By this arrangement, a high compactness and a very advantageous force transmission between drive and output shafts can be achieved.

    • The surgical suturing machine comprises a housing (10) on whose head piece (14) a needle holder (16) holding a needle (30), a thread catcher (18), a rotatable cylindrical body (20), a fixed foot with a plate (70) and a stretcher (22) are releasably mounted. The projecting tissue edges to be sutured together are clamped between plates (70) and cylindrical body (20). When the surgical suturing machine advances, the shaped circumferential surface (78) of cylindrical body (20) rolls along the outside of one edge of the tissue. The circumferential surface (78) of the rotating cylindrical body "grips" the outer surface of one tissue edge and guides the two tissue edges into a clamping zone which is located in the vicinity of the shortest distance between plate (70) and circumference (78) of the cylindrical body (20). The projecting tissue edges are pierced by needle (30) in the clamping zone and sutured together with the aid of thread catcher (18) and needle (30 ). Then they are pressed flat by stretcher (22) so that the edges of the tissue are opposite and abutting one another.In a second embodiment a suction air holding device (240) which acts during each suturing process is provided in the suturing area of needle (203) for the tissue edges, said device (240) being raisable and lowerable by drive mechanism (236-239) in the vertical plane.

    • The blind-stitch sewing machine includes a fabric bender adjustable between a sewing position wherein the material being sewn will bulge into the arcuate trajectory of the arc needle and a release position allowing the material to be sewn to be inserted and respectively the material having been sewn to be removed, this adjustment being effected through a rocker shaft. This rocker shaft cooperates with a stop defining the sewing position of the fabric bender. The stop is adjustable for setting the stitch-depth of the arc needle into the particular material to be sewn in order to assure a corresponding distance of the fabric bender in the sewing position from the trajectory of the arc needle. To allow the operating personnel to more easily, more rapidly and more accurately set the stitch-depth of the arc needle, whereby operation is facilitated, idle times are shortened and better sewing results are achieved, a stepping drive for the adjustable stop and an electric control circuit for the stepping drive are provided which electric control circuit is adapted to be actuated to set the stop by means of the stepping drive to correspond to the particular, desired-stitch depth of the arc needle.
