    • A sewing machine having a thread monitor associated with a bobbin mounted for rotation. The bobbin includes first and second reflecting surfaces associated with an inner side of a second bobbin flange, and first and second light outlet openings associated with a second bobbin flange. A light source is provided for directing light toward the reflecting surfaces. A light receiver is positioned so as to receive light emerging from the first and second outlet opening. The light receiver produces signals representing the light intensity received by the light receiver. A Schmitt trigger provides a pulse to a microprocessor coinciding with a revolution of the bobbin. For each revolution of the bobbin, an A/D converter converts signals received from the light receiver into digital signals which are compared. The digital signal having the maximum value for the revolution is stored in a memory and then compared with a subsequent maximum value. When the subsequent maximum value differs from the stored maximum value, a warning signal is generated by the microprocessor.

    • A stitch forming machine is provided including a transducer for determining the tension present in a thread, wherein the thread tension assumes a higher value during stitch formation and the transducer provides a signal representing the tension level. The control is provided for evaluating the signal corresponding to the tension level. The control includes a comparator device for comparing a peak of the signal representing the tension level, which peak can be used to detect a malfunction, with a limit signal, corresponding to a limit tension. The comparator sends a signal to a switching device when a signal peak drops below the limit signal. The switching device may be connected to a shut-off device of the drive motor of the machine as well as one or more display elements. In this way, the machine may be stopped and the display element associated with a limit tension, below which the tension dropped by a switching device. The comparator may, according to another aspect of the invention, only provide a signal for energizing a switch depending upon a stitch formation phase associated with a signal peak which drops below a limit signal.

    • The invention relates to a device for separating, delivering, and depositing material blanks, for use in the textile industry or the like which improves heat transfer to the gripping surface in a device in which the heating device is arranged in such a way that it is protected from external forces. The device comprises a heatable gripping plate, which has a gripping surface and an expansion chamber adjacent thereto, in which a refrigerant is able to expand and thus cool the gripping plate to below the freezing point so that a material blank will freeze onto said gripping surface. The side of the chamber opposite the gripping surface is closed by a nonmetallic intermediate plate whose surfaces are essentially parallel to said gripping surface and can be coated with metal, and which intermediate plate has a noncoated surface with an electrical heating resistor arranged therein and a metal-coated surface that is in metallic connection with a plurality of webs that form a bridge for heat transfer from the intermediate plate to the gripping surface.

    • A thread changing mechanism for sewing machines comprises a plurality of needle holders which are received for displacement in a magazine which is fixedly mounted at the level of the top dead center of the needle bar. The needle holders have inner guide surfaces in T-configuration, corresponding to outer T-configuration guide surfaces of the coupling member which is secured to the needle bar. In the middle of the magazine, a recess is provided for the coupled needle holder. In a first embodiment, several fingers are pivotable between the needle holders to space them from each other. The coupled needle holder can then move freely upwardly and downwardly during the sewing operation. In a second embodiment, the same free movement of the coupled needle holder is ensured by a fork by which, after the coupling is effected, the needed spacing between the coupled one and the adjacent needle holders is ensured.

    • A two-needle sewing machine includes a machine casing having a sewing head mounting the needles, a work support plate, and a ripping knife supported in the sewing head and working between the needles to form an elongated slot of a braid opening in a cut garment piece. A supporting bar is guided in the machine casing for longitudinal displacement perpendicular to the work support plate, and is rotatable into different angular positions. A single angular cross-section cutting knife is mounted on the supporting bar and serves as a tool for making diverging corner cuts at the opposite ends of the elongated slot. Air-operated piston-cylinder actuators are provided to rotate the supporting bar between two positions spaced angularly by 180.degree., and to displace the supporting bar longitudinally to effect the diverging corner cuts. The sewing head mounts a sliding foot arrangement for moving the work in a direction opposite to the normal work feeding direction.

In a second embodiment, the sensing devices are mounted on the same support which mounts the clasps.
