    • A brush seal assembly for turbo-engines is provided for sealing off spaces on a circumferential gap which are differently acted upon by pressure, particularly between an engine stator and an engine rotor. A holding device for a bristle bundle is provided on the engine stator, from which holding device the bristle bundle is guided between circumferential webs in a sealing manner against the engine rotor and forms an axial gap in the circumferential direction with respect to one web facing the high-pressure side. The upstream one of the circumferential webs, together with the engine rotor surface, forms an axial ring gap for flow of fluid therethrough. Turbulence reducing structure is disposed upstream of the upstream web in the high pressure space and serves to reduce the turbulence in flow of air from the upstream space through the axial ring gap. This turbulence reducing structure can be in the form of a metal sponge and/or a honey comb structure.

    • A blade for a fluid flow machine such as a jet turbine engine includes a blade body (2) that is to be exposed to the fluid flow and therefore is subject to damage by erosion due to abrasive particle entrained in the fluid flow and due to thermal loading. The blade body (2) is a layered body including base layers (6) of a fiber reinforced synthetic material and a metallic cover layer (7) applied as an erosion protective layer onto at least a portion or the entirety of the surface of the base layers (6). The cover layer (7) includes metallic fibers or threads (9A, 9B) which are bonded with the fiber reinforced synthetic material of the adjacent base layers (6) by the same synthetic resin binder material permeating through and forming a matrix for all the layers (6 and 7). The metallic fibers or threads (9A, 9B) embedded in a synthetic resin matrix are characterized by a high degree of erosion resistance and a good tolerance for defects in the case of local impact or erosion damage. The blade may be a blade of a fan or compressor stage of a jet turbine engine. A method for manufacturing and a method for repairing such blades involves exposing outer layers of fibers of a blade, and applying thereon a cover layer of metallic fibers or threads. An additional outer protective layer may be applied on the cover layer.

    • A lubricating system for an internal combustion engine maintains lubrication even in extreme emergency positions of the engine such as slants within the range of about 90.degree. to about 270.degree., relative to the horizontal and even for upside down engine positions. For this purpose, a hydraulic accumulator (16) is connected to the lubricant circulating circuit through a parallel connection of a non-return valve (17) and a controllable valve. Under normal operating conditions, the hydraulic accumulator is charged with lubricant under the pressure prevailing in the lubricant circulating system. Under emergency conditions, the normal lubrication is stopped and emergency lubrication continues through the controllable valve that is opened in response to a pressure drop in the normal lubricant circulating system.

    • A system is provided for cooling especially the backplate of a flame tube of a combustion chamber for gas turbine engines, of the type having at least one burner arranged on the backplate and having a fuel nozzle and at least one swirler arranged coaxially with the fuel nozzle for the supply of combustion air. The backplate is cooled with compressed air diverted from a compressor and ducted to a head end of the combustion chamber. The backplate forms at least one cooling air duct to carry the compressed air supplied for backplate cooling, and the cooling air duct communicates at its outlet end at the burner with the flame tube such that the compressed air issuing from the cooling air duct enters into combustion in the primary zone. At its outlet end the cooling air duct can communicate with the air inlets of at least one swirler.

An inlet to the catalyst area receives fresh combustion gas to be reformed, which passes through the area containing the catalyst, in which the reforming process takes place, and exits through an outlet. The reforming device is designed as a heat exchanger located in the exhaust gas stream directly behind the fuel cell block. Exhaust gas from the fuel cells is guided through the heat exchanger as a heating gas for heating the reforming device.
