    • An A/D conversion control apparatus includes a control circuit for controlling various actuators and an A/D converter having a plurality of signal input channels. The control circuit and the A/D converter are packed in different IC packages and perform communication of a handshake system therebetween. Because the control of the A/D converter is performed based on channel start signals which are sequentially transmitted from a time synchronous register, complicated control such as schedule control in software is not required. A start signal stored in an asynchronous register is transmitted in response to a signal generated at an asynchronous timing and therefore can be processed at a different timing.

    • A vehicular communications system connects, through a communications network, with a plurality of electronic control units (ECUs) that control respective in-vehicle devices. The vehicular communications system further connects with a master ECU that monitors, for diagnosis, operating states of the ECUs through the communications network. When the master ECU detects a given ECU that is in an abnormal state, it restarts, through the communications network, the given ECU to return to an initial state. When the master ECU initializes the given ECU, it stores a record of initializing the given ECU in its EEPROM, and initializes, when necessary, a built-in memory of the given ECU. The master ECU can be constructed as initializing the given ECU based on an initialization request command from an outside of the vehicle through wireless communications.

    • A press machine includes a first rotary shaft which rotates in synchronism with a press crankshaft, a second rotary shaft which is coaxial with the first shaft and which has a drive cam for actuating a knock-out pin, and a clutch for connecting and disconnecting the first and second shafts. Knock-out timing is adjusted by releasing the clutch to separate the shafts and rotating one of the shafts through a predetermined angle relative to the other to produce a predetermined rotational phase difference between them. In the preferred embodiments, the second shaft is axially aligned with the first shaft, and is rotatable but axially immovable with respect to the press frame. A driving gear and a driven gear are provided between adjacent portions of the first and second shafts. The second shaft has a bore in which a lightweight, axially movable shaft is mounted. This movable shaft carries at one end a connector gear which is engageable with the driving and driven gears between the first and second shafts and which, together with the driving and driven gears form the clutch. A connector is provided for engaging the clutch and a separator is provided for disengaging clutch. The first and second shafts are separated by displacing the movable shaft and the connecting gear therewith with the use of the separator to disconnect the driving gear from the driven gear.
