    • A magneto-optical disk having a four-layer structure formed of a first protective dielectric layer, a recording magnetic layer, a second protective dielectric layer and a reflective metal layer is disclosed. The constraints for the film thicknesses of the various layers are determined not only from the optical and magneto-optical aspects, but from the aspect of the dynamic thermal response.The recording magnetic layer is a magnetic layer mainly formed of TbFeCo and having a film thickness of not less than 180 .ANG. and not more than 280 .ANG.. The first protective dielectric layer is a nitride film having a film thickness such that the product of its refractive index and the film thickness is not less than 0.2 and not more than 0.35 times the wavelength of the laser light employed. The second protective dielectric layer is a nitride film having a film thickness such that the product of its refractive index and the film thickness is not less than 0.1 and not more than 0.15 times the wavelength of the laser light employed. The the reflective metal layer is a metal layer having a film thickness of not less than 500 .ANG. and not more than 1000 .ANG., with the metal being electro-chemically less noble than the material of the recording magnetic layer and having a reflectivity at the boundary with the second protective dielectric material of not less than 70%.

    • In a seal system for a scroll type fluid machine, a seal mechanism is provided between a backpressure plate and a holder, so as to surround an orbiting backpressure chamber. The seal member comprises a seal attachment groove, a seal member and a Y-shaped packing. The seal attachment groove is stepped on its outer circumference to define a shallow bottom portion. The seal member includes, on its outer circumference side, a cutout portion matching the shallow bottom portion. The Y-shaped packing is disposed between a deep groove peripheral wall of the seal attachment groove and the cutout portion of the seal member, and a backpressure chamber is defined on a reverse surface side of the seal member. By this arrangement, a slide surface of the seal member can be larger than an effective area of the backpressure side of the seal member. Thereby it is possible to reduce a difference between a load Ff acting on the slide surface and a load Fb acting on the reverse surface.

    • A compressor which is provided with a safety device so that it is possible to detect occurrence of a primary accident, for example, breakage of a connecting rod, in the early stage. The compressor has a pressure sensor installed at a predetermined position in the compressor to detect the level of pressure at that position, a memory means for storing the behavior of the pressure change at the predetermined position that is obtained when the compressor is running in a normal state, a means for judging the behavior of the pressure change actually taking place at the predetermined position on the basis of an output from the pressure sensor and making a comparison between the actual pressure change behavior and the pressure change behavior in the normal state that is stored in the memory means, and a means for suspending the compressor when the actual pressure change behavior is different from the pressure change behavior in the normal state. Thus, it is possible to reliably prevent occurrence of a secondary accident which may invite a serious accident and hence possible to enhance the safety and reliability of the compressor.
