    • In a method and an arrangement for checking the tightness of a vessel (10), especially of a tank-venting system of a motor vehicle, the vessel (10) is charged with a pressure generated by a motor-driven pressure source (30) and the motor current is determined. A reference leak (36) is selectively driven by a switchover valve (32) and is charged with a corresponding pressure and the motor current is determined. The determined electrical characteristic quantity and the determined reference characteristic quantity are compared and a conclusion is drawn therefrom as to the presence of a leak. To prevent the entry of moisture into the pressure source (30), it is provided that at least the pressure source (30) is heated intermittently. The heating takes place preferably by driving the switchover valve (32) at a suitable pulse duty factor. To prevent the entrance of moisture into the pressure source (30), a check valve (44) is provided and is suitably mounted in the connecting part of the pressure source (30).

    • A device is disclosed for protecting a consumer, with a first current path having two lines, and a monitoring arrangement for detecting an imminent overload of the electrical consumer. In order to enable the detection of an imminent overload of a consumer, it is proposed that the monitoring arrangement includes a first temperature measuring unit, an evaluation unit and a first measuring element, which establishes an electrically conductive connection between the two lines of the first current path. The first temperature measuring unit is electrically isolated from the first measuring element and includes a first and a second temperature sensor. The first and second temperature sensor of the first temperature measuring unit are configured to simultaneously record a temperature of the first measuring element and the evaluation unit is configured to detect an imminent overload of the consumer based upon the recorded temperatures of the first temperature measuring unit.

    • The present invention provides optical network methods and systems. In one example, a method for handling packets in a node coupled to a ring and star subnetwork may include (a) receiving in the given node a data packet on the ring subnetwork, (b) detecting a failure on the ring subnetwork, (c) determining a new transmission path to the destination node, and (d) sending the data packet along the new transmission path. In another example, an EPON may include (a) a root coupled to a ring and star subnetwork, (b) ONUs coupled to the root via a splitter/combiner and a first fiber link, (c) a second fiber link coupled to a subset of ONUs and the star subnetwork, and (d) a WDM coupler on the first fiber link that separates a first waveband of wavelengths from a second waveband of wavelengths and guides the first waveband to the star.
