    • In one embodiment, a system comprises a first element viewable on a web page on or near an advertisement and soliciting user reactions concerning the advertisement; and a second element displayed in response to selection of the first element, soliciting one or more user reactions concerning the advertisement, and displaying the advertisement or a substantial duplicate thereof. In one embodiment, a method comprises collecting user reactions concerning an advertisement on a web page and presenting a report of the reactions comprising a bar graph with each bar representing a characteristic of the advertisement. In one embodiment, a method comprises collecting user reactions concerning advertisements included on web pages and presenting a report of the reactions comprising a graph including multiple icons, each representing an advertisement; an axis corresponding to a quantity of reactions; and an axis corresponding to ratings associated with the reactions for characteristics of the advertisements.

    • The present invention provides a method and apparatus for inspecting and sorting buttons and the like. The inspection means includes a main chamber having a first aperture opening with a diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the buttons to be inspected and a center on the optical axis of said chamber. The inspection means and/or the sorting means of the invention includes means for aligning each button in a rapid succession of buttons at the first aperture opening. A light source is positioned to direct a beam of light through a button stationed at the aperture and along the optical axis of the chamber. Positioned within the main chamber and on the optical axis thereof is a light reflecting means for reflecting the transmitted beam of light. Preferably, four light receiving members, each member having a first and second end and being spaced apart 90.degree. from two other members, are positioned in a plane normal to said optical axis. The first end of each member comprises a second aperture positioned adjacent said light reflecting means for receiving light therefrom. The second end of each of said members includes a photosensor means for detecting the reflected light through said second aperture to produce an output signal. A logic circuit is electrically connected to each of the photosensor means for comparing the output signals and providing an inspection signal. Preferably, a sorting means is provided in combination with the inspection apparatus and responsive thereto for rejecting or accepting inspected buttons in accordance with the inspection signal provided.

    • Method of making pearlescent button blanks by casting and polymerizing a liquid polymerizable resin containing light-reflecting platelets in cavities having the desired form of the button blanks. Pearlescence is imparted to the button blanks by orienting the light-reflecting platelets parallel to the surfaces of the blanks by scuffing a surface of the resin in the cavities during polymerization of the resin. Apparatus for producing buttons by the method of the invention includes a continuous perforated belt and two continuous solid belts that sandwich the perforated belt. The scuffing action for orienting the light-reflecting platelets is produced by sliding the solid belts across the surfaces of the perforated belt.

    • A proximity caliper for sensing the correct thickness of printed signatures is mounted on an apparatus for feeding printed sheets. A metal gripper which retains a signature against a rotatable drum traverses the caliper as the drum transfers the signature from one point to another. The proximity of the metal gripper with respect to the caliper is a function of signature thickness. Hence, the signature having too many or too few pages is detected. The proximity caliper includes at least two proximity sensors which do not come in contact with the metal gripper. The position of the sensors is adjustable with respect to the rotatable drum to accommodate signatures having a wide range of different thicknesses. The sensors are also adjustable with respect to each other to control the sensing tolerance. Signatures of the correct thickness are transferred by the drum and normal operation of the feeding apparatus proceeds. Signatures which are detected as having an incorrect number of pages may be removed.

    • Each signature feeder along a collating conveyor is selectively actuated under control of coded signals containing mailing information. A dot matrix printer, located between the feeders, is responsive to the coded signals to selectively print custom information within books of signatures. A second dot matrix printer, located after the stitcher and trimmer, prints mailing labels under control of the coded signals. Optical scanners located downstream of the dot matrix printers scan each line of possible printing to detect printing errors. A replacement book feeder, which inserts standard replacement books to fill empty spaces left by rejected books, has a hopper which is automatically refilled by diverting books of signatures from the conveyor. The entire collating line is controlled by a programmable controller and a computer which also reorders or replaces defective books of signatures, compensates for variations in calipered signature thicknesses, and controls other special handling procedures.
