    • An apparatus and method for generating a low concentration of gas within a carrier gas flow employing one or more miniature one-piece cylinders filled under pressure with a pure gas, or a concentrated gas balanced with an inert gas or gas mixture. Released from the cylinder through a pierced or other controlled opening, the flow of the gas is regulated by a pressure regulator and a micro orifice to be blended into a steady stream of diluent gas, typically ambient air, to form a desired gas concentration. No gas is generated if the pressure of the gas in the cylinder, which is monitored constantly by a pressure transducer, is below a predetermined level. The apparatus can be built into a portable device, or an automated docking station (or calibration station) for testing and calibrating gas detection and monitoring instruments, or into a fixed gas detection system for performing such functions.

    • Disclosed herein is an antenna feed design for transmitting or receiving a circularly polarized microwave signal, and a communication device using that antenna feed design. Resonating disks are bowl-shaped to balance E-plane and H-plane magnetic field patterns, decreasing cross-polarization, and providing mechanical rigidity. A non-planar circuit replaces planar microstrip transmission lines for transmitting the signal, with 90° phase shifts, from an input point to excitation points. This non-planar circuit overcomes some of the layout problems encountered in planar circuits. It maintains impedance matching from the input point to the excitation points by progressively tapering down the characteristic transmission line impedance of each successive section. The non-planar circuit has sufficient mechanical strength and rigidity to allow it to be supported at only two anchor points. Similarly, the non-planar disks are also of sufficient strength to require only a single anchor point each. Thus, the antenna parts do not require any additional dielectric substrate support, and all parts are DC grounded. The use of fingers surrounding the ground plane and extending towards the resonating disks results in improved off-boresight polarization. All components of the antenna feed are built and combined without the use of solder or dielectric substrate support, creating a stable, corrosion-resistant, low-cross polarization antenna.

    • There is provided a pair of tongs for grasping items, particularly food from a grill or griddle. Prongs are sized and space to fit between gaps in the cooking surface to slide under the food. The spacing may be adjustable to size the tongs for different sizes of grill/griddle spacing. For example, mounting ends of the prongs are coupled for rotation within an end of an arm. Gears between the prongs permit the turning of one prong when the other is rotated. The rotation adjusts the relative spacing between parallel elongate portions of the tongs. The spacing adjustment allows the prongs to fit grills with different size spacing.

    • A custom moldable insole comprising an outer Thermoplastic Urethane bag that contains a first inner bag filled with a first silicone fluid. Together with the first silicone fluid, the first inner bag also contains second inner bag. Inside the second inner bag is a second silicon fluid. This configuration ensures that, upon activation, both silicone fluids will be push through a mixer at the same time and ratio and provide an equal mixing of the silicon fluids through a mixer. This second inside inner bag is tied very tight with some air added to it in order for it to stand as tall as possible like a round ball. When the user stands on the heel of the insole the most inner, second inner bag, breaks first since it is tied tighter and protrudes higher. When the second inner bag breaks, it's silicone pre-mixes into the first inner bag.

    • A system is disclosed for securing a suture. The system includes a deformable suture clip having a pair of closely spaced panels configured for movement between an open position wherein a suture can pass between the two panels and a closed position wherein the suture can be securely clamped between the two panels. The system further includes a clip applicator having an elongated body defining opposed proximal and distal end portions. The distal end portion of the body includes a mounting fixture having structure for supporting the suture clip in an open position. The clip applicator further includes a mechanism for dislodging the suture clip from the mounting fixture, such that the panels of the clip move to the closed position to securely clamp the suture therebetween.

    • A novel active hood system is disclosed. The active hood system is designed such that in the event of a pedestrian/vehicle accident, the active hood system will soften the impact between the pedestrian and the vehicle by moving the vehicle hood into an elevated position. In some embodiments, the active hood system is constructed such that during a pedestrian/vehicle collision, the active hood system will raise the vehicle hood into an elevated position by having the hood move through a first travel distance and a second travel distance. The active hood system includes an actuator and a hinge. The actuator may be attached to the hinge. The actuator is designed such that if it is deployed, the actuator will raise the hood into the elevated position. Additional embodiments may also be made in which the actuator is vented during deployment. A dampener is also added to the active hood system. The dampener is designed to dampen the movement of the hood as the hood is moved through the second travel distance.
