    • An amplifier in which the feedback impedance includes a four terminal capacitor, and in which the input impedance is connected to a source of operating potential. The use of a four terminal capacitor as a feedback element compensates for the failure mode of the amplifier in which the opening of the feedback element results in infinite AC gain of the amplifier. The connection of the signal input impedance to a source of operating potential compensates for the failure mode of the amplifier in which the input impedance shorts, which normally results in infinite AC gain of the amplifier.

    • A pair of tachometers are operatively engaged with the drive mechanism of a vehicle. The tachometers are aligned relative to one another such that if the vehicle is traveling in a forward direction the signal provided at the output of the first tachometer leads the signal provided at the output of the second tachometer by a first predetermined phase angle, and if the vehicle is traveling in the reverse direction, the signal output of the second tachometer leads the signal output of the first tachometer by a second predetermined phase angle. Apparatus is included for sensing the relative phase of the respective signals provided at the outputs of the tachometers. In response to sensing that the output signal of the first tachometer leads the output signal of the second tachometer by the first predetermined phase angle, a vehicle movement control signal is provided which informs the vehicle drive mechanism that it is safe for the vehicle to continue its movement. In the event the apparatus senses that the output signal of the second tachometer leads the output signal of the first tachometer by the second predetermined phase angle, the provision of the vehicle movement control signal is inhibited, and the vehicle is braked.

    • A vehicle control system in which a vehicle is operative on steel rails and in which a plurality of conductors are connected between the rails at predetermined locations. A track section between and including two such conductors forms a track circuit signalling block. At one end of the signalling block track current is introduced into the rails and a receiving antenna is positioned adjacent the conductor forming the other end of the track circuit signalling block. In the absence of a vehicle within the block, the receiving antenna senses a track current at a relatively high level and when a vehicle enters the track circuit signalling block the receiving means senses track current at a substantially reduced level. A plurality of voltage sensing means are located at predetermined locations across the track circuit signalling block for sensing the position of the vehicle within the signalling block. Each such voltage sensing means senses a voltage signal at a predetermined level in the absence of the vehicle being present adjacent the voltage sensing means. When the vehicle reaches a given voltage sensing means, the given voltage sensing means then senses voltage at a greatly reduced signal level which is indicative of the vehicle being present. Signal responsive means respond to the latter signal to provide an indication of vehicle presence at the given location.
