摘要： In an apparatus for sensing a distance between a sensor and a surface of a body being measured, a sensor body of the sensor is formed as a light waveguide for laser light. A light exit site for light diffracted within the sensor body is located at a surface thereof which faces away from the measured body. A detection particle is located at the surface of the sensor body, which faces the measured body. The detection particle has a substantially convex and rounded off form and a major dimension which is smaller than the wavelength of the light. The measured body is located in the optical near field of the detection particle. A detector device converts the optical energy of the diffracted light into an electrical detector signal. A continuous thin film is provided as a coating on the sensor. It substantially covers the detection particle and at least a part of the surface of the sensor body in the vicinity of the detection particle. The film has a thickness which is smaller than one half of a predetermined wavelength. The sensor is used to finally convert a distance value into an electrical value.

摘要： The design of a current-to-voltage converter with a uniform transfer function in its feedback loop (12) is proposed. It employs a very large, double-shielded measuring resistance (13) and a two-stage setup to perform a fully linear I/V conversion with a conversion factor of 10.sup.10 V/A and a bandwidth of 1 MHz. With the low noise level attained, and with the bandwidth and conversion factor mentioned, it will be possible to monitor events involving as few as 300 electrons. The current-to-voltage converter comprises a differential input amplifier (8), a current source (11) for supplying said differential amplifier (8), at least one operational amplifier (10, 14), and a high-valued measuring resistance (13) the voltage drop across which is being taken as a measure of the current to be detected. The measuring resistance (13) is arranged in a feedback loop (12) associated with said differential amplifier (8). The measuring resistance (13) is double-shielded from the remainder of the current/voltage converter circuitry through its arrangement inside a cylindrical capacitor C which acts as a first shield, and which is in turn connected to a casing (15, 25) surrounding the differential amplifier (8) and the feedback loop (12) and which constitutes a second shield.

摘要： A data processing system comprises a local probe storage array having a plurality of sensors for reading data from a storage surface. A plurality of data processing elements are mounted on the storage array. Each data processing element is connected to different sensor of the array for processing data read by the connected sensor. The data processing elements may be logic gates for performing simple comparisons with input data. Alternatively, each data processing element may comprise more complex logic circuitry for performing more complex functions based on data read by the storage array. Such function may involve a combination of data read by the storage array and data input to the data processing system from an another source. Each data processing element may comprise a complete microprocessor system responsive to data read from the storage array. It will be appreciated that data processing elements may thought of as collectively constituting a form of CPU capable of acting upon data read from the storage array in a parallel and therefor high speed fashion.

摘要： A micromechanical signal processing system includes an oscillating member designed to oscillate at a first frequency, a micromechanical pump oscillator being driven so as to oscillate at a second frequency, with the second frequency being greater than the first frequency, and a non-linear coupling element to couple the micromechanical pump oscillator to the oscillating member. These elements are arranged such that energy from the micromechanical pump oscillator is transferred via said non-linear coupling element into the oscillating member to compensate for its losses if the oscillating member oscillates at the first frequency.
