    • This invention relates to an electronic camera of an electronic lens shutter type including a film rewinding apparatus. The film rewinding apparatus comprises a camera back which openable for mounting or dismounting a film cartridge, an open camera back detection device for detecting the open camera back, a film rewinding device for rewinding a film, a film detection device provided in a film passage to detect a presence of the film, and a film rewind control device which stops rewinding of the film for a time specified by a timer when the film detection device detects that there is no film during the film rewinding, inhibits subsequent rewinding of the film when the open camera back is detected during the specified time, and resumes rewinding of the film when the open camera back is not detected during the specified time and the specified time is over.

    • To provide an image reading apparatus which is capable of easily and quickly specifying a frame of a transparency original for which image reading is desired from the transparency original having a plurality of frames and of image reading with high accuracy at the time of final reading of a specified image.     • A camera for reading film information expressed with a bar code, which is provided on a bar code plate being rotatable with a spool of a film cartridge, through a window of the film cartridge. The camera includes: a driver for rotating the spool; an optical reading device for reading the bar code, and for generating a bar code information including the film information; a detecting circuit for detecting a reference position of the bar code according to the bar code information, and a memory device for storing the bar code information being read by the optical reading device. In the camera, the driver rotates the spool in a film rewinding direction after a film in the film cartridge is rewound so that the detector circuit detects the reference position of the bar code according to the bar code information stored in the memory device, and the driver rotates the spool according to the reference position so as to locate a bar code portion corresponding to exposed state of the film. The camera further includes a release pin for releasing a spool locking mechanism which cannot be inadvertently released during the cartridge loading or cartridge removal.
