    • A throttle gear 5 is fastened to a throttle shaft 2. A relief lever 9 is pivotally mounted on the throttle shaft 2. A return spring 11 urges the relief lever 9 in a valve closing direction with respect to a throttle body 1. The throttle body 1 contacts the relief lever 9 at a second contact position 20A when the relief lever 9 pivots to a predetermined pivot position B in the valve closing direction. A relief spring 10 urges the throttle gear 5 in a valve opening direction with respect to the relief lever 9. The relief lever 9 contacts the throttle gear 5 at a first contact position 20B when the throttle gear 5 pivots to the predetermined pivot position B in the valve opening direction. The first and second contact positions 20B, 20A are located within or to one side of a plane P that is perpendicular to the rotational axis L of the throttle shaft 2. Plane P preferably includes a third position 20C at which the biasing force of the return spring 11 acts on the relief lever 9.

    • A throttle control apparatus for an internal combustion engine in which wear particles due to sliding between components and vibration wear particles produced between components by engine vibrations are prevented from entering the area between a brush of a throttle sensor and a sensor substrate to prevent the occurrence of a contact failure between the brush and the substrate, thereby making it possible to detect an accurate throttle opening. A brush of a sensor unit is secured to an outer end portion of a throttle shaft projecting from a cover, and the sensor unit is accommodated in a sensor chamber formed outside the cover. A gear chamber for accommodating gears and the sensor chamber are isolated from each other by a dust seal. Therefore, wear particles will not enter the sensor chamber and accumulate in the area between the brush and the sensor substrate to cause a contact failure.

    • An intake valve device includes a throttle body defining a bore for the flow of intake air. A throttle shaft is rotatably mounted to the throttle body. A slit is formed in the throttle shaft in a diametrical direction and extends throughout the diameter of the throttle shaft. The slit has opposing end walls along the rotational axis of the throttle shaft. A throttle valve is inserted into the slit of the throttle shaft and fixed in position relative to the throttle shaft. Possible intake air leakage channels are defined between the outer periphery of the throttle valve and the end walls of the slit. At least one restriction portion is formed on the throttle valve so as to extend into at least one of the possible leakage channels in order to narrow the possible leakage channel and reduce or inhibit the leakage of intake air.
