    • A tracked suspension for a tractor or other work vehicle is disclosed having an endless belt, a belt tensioner, a drive wheel, and a plurality of idler wheels mounted to a suspension frame or idler carriage, the assembly being arranged such that the belt tension provided by the tensioner is absorbed within the frame and is not transmitted to the axle extending from the tractor that drives the tracked suspension. The tracked suspension can be adjusted by loosening or removing mounting bolts that fix the suspension to beams extending from the vehicle, sliding the suspension toward or away from the vehicle, and tightening the bolts. By absorbing the belt tensioning forces within the tracked suspension itself, rather than transmitting the belt tensioning forces to the axle, the suspension can be more easily adjusted without requiring the removal and replacement of the drive axle.

This may also be sufficient to apply a tensile load bolts 100, which are preferably at least generally longitudinally aligned therewith as shown. As a result, a force equilibrium condition can be achieved, which can significantly and predictably reduce and control shear forces acting against the bolts or other connectors for connecting axle housing 74 to the side plates 24 of chassis 22.

    • An apparatus for controlling the position of an operating handle includes a plate which couples such operating handle to a device such as a hydraulic valve. The plate includes a detent notch, a shoulder and a control surface. An auxiliary lever is mounted for pivoting movement between a first, engaged position and a second, disengaged position and is maintained in either position by a compression spring. Such compression spring exhibits toggling movement as the lever is moved between positions. The lever includes a pin for engaging the detent notch when the lever is in the first position and the handle is thereby retained in a predetermined position. When the pin is in contact with the control surface and with the shoulder, the handle is retained in an operating position. Movement of a stop mechanism to a position which does not obstruct handle movement also permits the operating handle to move to a "float" position.

    • A control console for a mobile machine includes a lower support device, a first platform and a pair of links pivotally coupled between the support device and the first platform. A second platform is mounted atop the first platform for sliding movement parallel thereto and a compression mechanism coacts with the platforms and secures them in respective positions. More specifically, each platform includes a horizontal support member and a web extending downwardly from such members. The platform webs are closely proximate one another and when the compression mechanism is tightened, the webs and one of the links are compressed together. Web/link compression prevents up-down movement of the platforms in unison and also prevents movement of the second platform with respect to the first platform. A new method for moving the position of a control lever mounted on the console is also disclosed.

    • A work vehicle having a front end, a rear end, a longitudinal length and a transverse width which includes a remote fluid power supply system, the remote fluid power supply system includes a fluid pump, a fluid reservoir, a first valve fluidly connected to the pump and the reservoir, and a second valve fluidly connected to the pump and the reservoir. In another embodiment, the work vehicle includes a power take-off shaft extending from the transverse center line, wherein the first and second valves are located on first and second opposite sides of the power take-off shaft at the end of the work vehicle. In at least one of the embodiments, both the first and second valves are fluidly connected to the pump by a single fluid conduit and are fluidly connected to the fluid reservoir by a single fluid conduit extending across the transverse center line of the work vehicle.

The support member has a first portion movably secured to the vehicle, a second portion configured as a handle, and an intermediate portion disposed between the first and second portions and including at least one catch member disposed to engage an engaging member of the at least one linkage. The vehicle includes a primary latch for securing the hood to the frame in the closed position, and a secondary latch for backing up the primary latch in the closed position by engaging a support member catch with an engaging member of the at least one linkage. The vehicle further comprises a coupler coupling the support member to the primary latch whereby the support member functions as a single lever actuating device of both the primary and secondary latches. The vehicle further comprises at least one biasing device selectable in spring constant and preload and configurable in locating of mounting whereby a particular biasing device may be used to balance a hood of particular weight and weight distribution in the open, closed, and intermediate positions.

    • A tiltable steering system for an off-highway implement including a steering column having a steering wheel connected toward an upper end thereof. A tilting mechanism for the steering column defines a generally horizontal pivot about which the steering column moves. The tilting mechanism further includes a gas spring mechanism connected to the steering column for allowing the steering column to pivotally move through a relatively wide range of positions and thereafter be locked in a selected tilted position. A second tilting mechanism is provided between the steering column and the steering wheel for allowing the steering wheel to be adjusted and secured in a tilted position independently of the selected tilted position of the steering column. To further promote ergonomic positioning of the steering wheel, the steering column of the present invention is elevationally adjustable as through telescoping casings which define the steering column. A locking mechanism secures the casings in adjusted relation to each other thereby allowing the elevational position of the steering wheel to be adjusted as desired by the operator.
