    • The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer having a content of unreacted diisocyanate of less than about 2% by weight, preferably less than about 1% by weight, based on the weight of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer, and containing internal urethane groups based on 4,4'-diisocyanato-dicyclohexyl-methane by(a) preparing an OH-terminated prepolymer from(i) a high molecular weight polyol component, and/or(ii) a low molecular weight isocyanate-reactive component, and(iii) a polyisocyanate component comprising 4,4'-diisocyanato-dicyclohexyl-methane at an NCO/OH equivalent ratio of about 0.5:1 to 0.9:1;(b) forming the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer by reacting the OH-terminated prepolymer with a polyisocyanate other than 4,4'-diisocyanato-dicyclohexyl-methane containing aromatically-, aliphatically- and/or cycloaliphatically-bound isocyanate groups at an NCO:OH equivalent ratio, based on the free -OH groups of component (a), of about 1.6:1 to 15:1, and(c) reducing the amount of unreacted diisocyanate to less than about 2% by weight, based on the weight of the isocyanate-terminated prepolymer.The present invention is also directed to the products prepared by this process and their use in one-component, moisture-cure systems or as the isocyanate component in two-component polyurethanes.

    • The present invention is directed to an organic polyurethane composition having a solids content of about 10 to 100 weight percent which comprises(1) isocyanate-terminated prepolymers which are prepared by reacting reaction products of the phosgenation of aniline-formaldehyde condensates containing specific ratios of isomers and homologues with polyether polyols containing at least two hydroxyl groups and at least one tertiary nitrogen atom and, optionally, an additional polyol which does not contain a tertiary nitrogen atom and optionally,(2) a monoisocyanate comprising a member selected from para-toluenesulfonyl isocyanate and the reaction product of 2,4- or 2,6-toluene diisocyanate or mixtures thereof with specific monoalcohols.The present invention is also directed to the coatings produced from the polyurethane compositions, optionally containing pigments.

    • The present invention relates to polyurethane encapsulated fertilizer particles which exhibit slow-release properties and to a process for their production. The process comprises applying an isocyanate-reactive component to fertilizer particles, to form fertilizer particles coated with an isocyanate-reactive component, applying a polyisocyanate component onto the coated fertilizer particles to form polyurethane encapsulated fertilizer particles, and, optionally, repeating these steps as many times as necessary to form the polyurethane encapsulated fertilizer particles that contain about 2 to 20% by weight of polyurethane, based on the total weight of the encapsulated fertilizer particles. Suitable isocyanate-reactive components include polyesterether polyols that comprise either a blend of or the reaction product of (i) castor oil having an OH number of about 160 to about 170, a viscosity of about 500 to about 900 mPa.s at 25° C., and a water content of less than 0.5% by weight; and (ii) a polyether polyol having an OH number of from 28 to 700, a functionality of from 3 to 8, and a molecular weight of about 240 to about 6,000, and a viscosity of from about 50 to 35,000 mPa.s at 25° C. The polyether polyol must be prepared from a suitable initiator compound and an alkylene oxide comprising at least 70% by weight of propylene oxide.

    • This invention relates to polyurethane encapsulated fertilizer particles which exhibit slow-release properties and to a process for their production.     • This invention relates to processes for the production of symmetrical polyurea-urethane coated granular fertilizer products, and to the symmetrical polyurea-urethane coated granular fertilizer products produced by these processes. These processes comprise coating fertilizer granules with compounds which react to form urethane coatings which contain terminal isocyanate groups, followed by polymerization of these urethanes to form symmetrical polyurea-urethanes. Suitable compounds comprise a) an organic polyisocyanate component, and b) an alkanolamine component containing at least one tertiary amine group and at least one hydroxyl group. These compounds are present in sufficient quantities that the molar ratio of isocyanate groups to isocyanate-reactive groups is from about 1.6:1.0 up to about 10.0:1.0 in each encapsulating layer. It is necessary that sufficient amounts of these compounds are applied to the fertilizer granules such that the symmetrical polyurea-urethane coated granular fertilizer particles contain from about 0.5 to about 15% by weight of polyurea-urethane, based on the total weight of the encapsulated fertilizer particles.
