The present invention is the phosphor that is represented by the general formula xAO.y1EuO.y2EuO3/2.DO.zSiO2.wCaCl2 wherein A is at least one selected from Sr and Ba, D is at least one selected from Mg and Zn, and 2.970≦x≦3.500, 0.001≦y1+y2≦0.030, 1.900≦z≦2.100, and 0.001≦w≦0.100 are satisfied, and that has 50 mol % or less of the divalent Eu ratio (ratio of the divalent Eu element to the total of the Eu elements) in the vicinity of the surface of the phosphor particle.

Or, in this blue phosphor, a peak appearing around 2θ=22.86 degrees in an X-ray diffraction pattern obtained by measurement of the blue phosphor using an X-ray with a wavelength of 0.773 Å has a one-fifth value width of 0.17 degrees or less. Furthermore, the present invention is a light-emitting device having a phosphor layer including the phosphor. A suitable example of the light-emitting device is a plasma display panel.

摘要： A plasma display device is provided in which deterioration in brightness of phosphor layers can be avoided. The plasma display device includes a plasma display panel in which a plurality of discharge cells in one color or in a plurality of colors are arranged and phosphor layers are arranged so as to correspond to the discharge cells in colors and in which light is emitted by exciting the phosphor layers with ultraviolet rays. The phosphor layers include blue phosphor, the blue phosphor being composed of an alkaline-earth metal aluminate phosphor containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of Mo and W. The addition of hexavalent ions (Mo, W) in the blue phosphor allows the elimination of oxygen defects in the vicinity of a layer containing Ba atoms (Ba—O layer), the suppression of adsorption of water to the surface of the blue phosphor and the improvement of deterioration in brightness and a change in chromaticity for the respective phosphors and discharge characteristics.

摘要： The present invention aims to provide a Eu-activated phosphor that maintains high wavelength conversion efficiency and suppresses deterioration with time due to vacuum ultraviolet irradiation, as well as a plasma display panel having superior display performance by suppressing sticking image caused by deterioration of the phosphor with time. To this end, the present invention provides a europium-activated phosphor where a divalent europium ratio of each phosphor particle constituting the phosphor is lower at and in a vicinity of a particle surface than for the particle as a whole. With such phosphor particles, it is possible to obtain the Eu-activated phosphor that has high maintaining ratio of emission intensity and high performance in suppressing deterioration with time in comparison with a conventional phosphor.
