摘要： Embodiment of the invention provides a magnetic disk drive that may suppress the decrease of a recording region by preventing a magnetic head slider from abutting a magnetic disk at the time of loading, and suppress the degradation of the flying characteristics. In one embodiment a magnetic disk drive of the present invention is provided with a magnetic head slider including a magnetic transducer, a ramp that unloads the magnetic head slider, and an actuator that moves the magnetic head slider. The magnetic head slider includes a rail surface that generates a positive pressure on an air-bearing surface, a step bearing surface, and a taper section that is formed to a slider corner section that is brought closest to the surface of a recording disk at the time of loading with a space from the rail surface and the step bearing surface.

In an embodiment of the present invention, a hard disk controller/multiprocessing unit (HDC/MPU) raises the temperature on the surface of a head slider with a heating element on the head slider to remove adhesion on the head slider while an actuator stays on a ramp. The HDC/MPU varies the amount of heat in accordance with the temperature sensed by a temperature sensor. This achieves removal of the adhesion on the head slider, maintaining reliability.

A method of manufacturing the rotation detector includes the following steps: assembling the semiconductor chip, the case body and the biasing permanent magnet into a unit; forming at least one groove adjacent to the joint surface so as to form a space between the joint surface and the inside surface when the cap is fixed to the case body; fixing the cap to the case body so that the inside surface of the cap can be in contact with the joint surface; irradiating a laser beam at portions behind the inside surface of the cap under a prescribed pressure to melt materials of the case body and the cap and to make melted materials flow to the space; and cooling the melted materials to re-crystallize.

In one embodiment of the present invention, a disk drive device adjusts the clearance between a head element portion and a disk with a heater on a slider. The clearance control according to the present embodiment incorporates the variation in heater power efficiency in the clearance variation depending on the radial position. The clearance variation in a unit of heater power varies depending on the radial position. Taking account of the variation in the heater power efficiency in the thermal fly-height control (TFC) depending on the radial position in addition to the clearance variation between the head element portion and the disk caused by variation in fly-height or attitude, accomplishes more accurate TFC.

摘要： Embodiments of the present invention help to reduce damage of a head element portion or a magnetic disk in a procedure for specifying a heater power value for adjusting a clearance between the head element portion and the magnetic disk. In an embodiment of the present invention, an HDC/MPU sequentially performs data writing and reading while increasing heater power. The HDC/MPU further determines whether or not a head slider has retrieved the data properly. When the data cannot be retrieved properly, the HDC/MPU specifies a heater power value in a normal operation based on the heater power value at which the data could not be retrieved properly.
