    • In a technique for setting up calls in IP mobile networks, when an application level in a mobile station sends a setup message to set up a multimedia call, before sending such a message over the radio interface, the mobile station performs the appropriate procedures to setup the appropriate bearers over the radio interface and in the network to satisfy the call requirements specified by the application level in the setup message. The technique applies to both mobile originated calls and mobile terminated calls, the called mobile station performing the transport level procedures after having received a setup message and before sending a confirmation/call acceptance message back to the calling party. Furthermore, the allocation of radio resources for PDP contexts that will be used to carry the media of a multimedia IP called is delayed so that no radio resources are allocated to the PDP contexts activated before the call control signaling is exchanged. The radio resources are allocated only when the call signaling has been completed and the called party has accepted the call and indicated the call characteristics that it can support. An indication is forwarded from the SGSN to the GGSN advising that no packets are to be sent on the PDP context because there are no radio resources for the PDP context.

    • A method, system and network element for providing an address transition if a connection point at one end of a connection is changed from a first network node to a second network node of a cellular network is provided. An address information and at least one alternative address information are transmitted in a signaling message from the first network node to the second network node. One of the address information and the alternative address information is selected at the second network node and used for re-establishing the connection towards the other end of the connection. Thereby, the new point of connection is allowed to re-establish the connection towards the other end of the connection, even if it can only communicate using one of the two addresses. Furthermore, signaling messages, e.g. messages relating to charging, lawful interception, and/or customized applications, received from different network nodes can be correlated based on the alternative addresses.

    • The invention provides a method and system for establishing or handling a connection between a first and a second network element connected to different networks such as GPRS/UMTS and IP-based networks.     • A method for performing charging in a telecommunications system, comprising: storing at a subscriber information store subscription information including charging arrangement information indicative of the charging arrangement for a first communication terminal operating in the telecommunications system: providing by means of packet data interface apparatus packet data communication services to the first terminal, the packet data interface apparatus being capable of interfacing between the first communication terminal and a packet-switched data link to another communications terminal: generating by means of the packet data interface apparatus charging messages indicative of the usage of the packet data communication services by the first terminal; transferring the charging messages to charging apparatus; and performing by means of the charging apparatus a charging operation to attribute to a subscriber for the first communications terminal a charge for use of the communication services by the first terminal: the method further including the steps of: transferring the charging arrangement information to the packet data interface apparatus; and storing at the packet data interface apparatus the charging arrangement information for the first communication terminal; and wherein the step of generating charging messages comprises generating the said charging messages dependant on the charging arrangement information for the first communication terminal.
