    • A method for manufacturing a liquid crystal polyester, comprising: a melt polycondensation step in which 0.001 to 1% by mass of a heterocyclic aromatic compound represented by the following formula (I) is added to a monomer mixture comprising at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of terephthalic acid, a terephthalic acid derivative, 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid and a 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid derivative, relative to 100% by mass of the monomer mixture, and then a melt polycondensation is conducted at a temperature of 240 to 300° C. so as to obtain a polymer. (wherein each of X1 and X2 independently represents a methyl group, an ethyl group, a propyl group, a butyl group or a pentyl group, provided that one or more hydrogen atoms on a heterocyclic aromatic ring may each independently be replaced by a halogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group).
