    • An inverter circuit having a bridge circuit comprising a plurality of switching elements connected in the form of a bridge for converting, into alternating current, a DC voltage produced by a DC voltage generating unit and which is received through a first switching circuit. The inverter circuit includes a pair of diodes and a spike absorbing capacitor which constitute a series network wherein the diodes are connected so as to be forward biased with respect to the DC voltage and the spike absorbing capacitor is connected between the diodes. The series network is connected in parallel with the bridge circuit and is connected to the DC voltage generating unit through the first switching circuit. The spike absorbing capacitor is connected in parallel with a smoothing capacitor of the DC voltage generating unit.

    • Disclosed is an induction motor drive apparatus which brings the actual speed of an induction motor into coincidence with a command speed by varying the frequency and effective value of a three-phase AC voltage applied to the induction motor. The apparatus includes an inverter for generating three-phase AC voltage, a speed deviation signal generator, an amplitude controller for controlling the amplitude of the speed deviation signal, an adder for adding together a voltage signal which conforms to the actual speed and the speed deviation signal which has been controlled, a rectangular waveform signal generator, and a pulse width modulator. The rectangular waveform signal generator is adapted to produce a three-phase rectangular signal whose frequency is proportional to the output voltage value of the adder. The rectangular signal of each phase is modulated in pulse width on the basis of the speed deviation, the inverter being controlled by each resulting pulse-width modulated rectangular signal to thereby vary the effective value of the three-phase AC voltage.

    • The invention relates to a speed control system which includes an inverter circuit for converting a direct current into a polyphase alternating current in the form of a rectangular wave by the switching action of transistors, and an inverter drive circuit adapted to apply control signals to the inverter circuit to bring its output frequency to a desired value, an induction motor being rotated by the alternating current supplied by the inverter circuit. The system features current detection means for detecting current that flows through the output side of the inverter circuit, and decision means for examining the output of the current detection means for a fixed period at a frequency higher than that at which the induction motor is driven. The decision means interrupts the operation of the inverter circuit when it has been judged that the current flowing through the outside thereof is greater than a prescribed value, and actuates the inverter circuit when the current flowing through the output side thereof is less than the prescribed value. The result is that the inverter circuit is allowed to operate intermittently at a current which does not exceed a prescribed value, whereby the induction motor runs continuously without any observable halt in operation.

This is accomplished by processing at least a speed command signal, actual speed signal and torque signal in analog fashion, enabling simplification of an induction motor speed control digital processing section which performs all other control operations in a digital manner. In a speed control network having a closed loop, a frequency-to-voltage converter, adder-subtractor, proportional integrator, polarity determining circuit absolute value circuit and voltage-to-frequency converter are constructed of circuitry operable on the basis of analog values, with all other circuits being constructed of circuitry operable on the basis of digital values.

The induction motor drive signals are amplified up to a prescribed value and then applied to the induction motor to energize the stator for each respective input phase so that the rotor of the induction motor will be caused to rotate at a very low speed.

The rectangular signal of each phase is modulated in pulse width on the basis of the speed deviation, the inverter being controlled by each resulting pulse-width modulated rectangular signal to thereby vary the effective value of the three-phase AC voltage and to make the speed of the induction motor constant.
