    • The laser of a laser-generated windshield display is controlled to initially deflect the laser beam in the direction of a reflective target disposed outside a display region of the windshield, and a sensor disposed in a reflection path of the target is sampled to detect the presence of a feedback signal that occurs when the laser beam impinges on the sensor. If the feedback signal is detected, the laser beam is deflected onto the display region to generate a driver display; but if the feedback signal is not detected, the laser is automatically turned-off. Once the laser is turned off for lack of a feedback signal, the control is repeated following a specified delay interval so that the driver display will automatically resume the when the condition that prevented generation of the feedback signal is cured.

    • A new apparatus is provided as part of a system for use in hospitals and the like, which safely stores and packages biohazardous wastes. The upper portion of the apparatus includes a pneumatically operated descending pressure plate and anti-pathogen provisions. The lower portion encloses a slide-out compartment in which disposable waste containers are placed. Bags containing such wastes are deposited in the container from time to time and are continually exposed to ultraviolet light, while air is drawn away for filtering and safe discharge. When several bags of waste have been so deposited, a planar divider for the waste container is pressed downward, gently leveling the bags of waste beneath it, while the air expelled is sprayed with an anti-pathogenic spray. These operations are repeated using a succession of such dividers until a container has been substantially filled; it is then removed for disposal. Novel safety features are incorporated in the pneumatic circuitry.

    • A combination fluid collection and disposal apparatus for collecting and disposing fluid aspirated from a patient from a surgical procedure is disclosed which comprises a collection unit for collecting the fluid and a treatment unit for coupling with the collection unit to remove the fluid from the collection unit and to dispose the fluid. The collection unit comprises a reservoir for the temporary storage of fluids aspirated from the patient, a vacuum port for connecting the collection unit to a vacuum source, and a vacuum line connecting the vacuum port to the reservoir. The collection unit also comprises at least one suction port adapted for connection to a suction tube for aspirating fluids from the patient, a suction line connecting the suctioln port to the reservoir, and a drain generally adjacent the bottom of the reservoir. The treatment unit comprises a washing fluid port adapted for connection to a source of washing fluid, means for coupling the treatment unit to the suction port for providing washing fluid through the suction port, through the suction line and to the reservoir for cleaning the suction port, suction line, and reservoir. The treatment unit also comprises means for coupling the treatment unit to the drain for removing the accumulated aspirated fluid and the washing fluid from the reservoir.
