    • An electric motor includes a rotor body having a longitudinal central axis, a longitudinal central opening substantially coaxial with the central axis, a journal bearing which is received in the central opening, a rotor shaft rotatably journaled in the bearing, and a wicking element through which the rotor shaft is journaled. The wicking element is in wicking contact with a source of lubricant and the rotor shaft to deliver lubricant from the source of lubricant to the rotor shaft. The improved wicking element has an opening which positively contacts the rotor shaft at at least one point, and is spaced from the shaft throughout substantially the remainder of the periphery to provide a wick which will improve oil flow to the rotor to improve lubrication of the shaft. Further, the wick is made from a polyester-cotton blend textile which has relatively short fibers. These fibers will not readily separate from the wick.

    • An electric motor has stator coils extending longitudinally past an end of its rotor so that the end turns and at least a portion of the inner side of the stator coils are exposed. A fan is disposed inside the motor shell between a first air passageway and the stator coils. The fan is secured to and driven by the rotor shaft to cause a flow of cooling air to pass over the stator coils when the motor is in operation. The fan has a number of vanes extending outwardly from a hub to a circumferential ring, which ring defines a central opening of the fan. The central opening extends past the vanes from the front to the rear of the fan so that the rear of the fan is relatively open. The inner surface of the ring is smoothly curved outwardly and rearwardly from the front of the central opening to direct air which enters the central opening toward the stator coils. The vanes are disposed adjacent the exposed portions of the stator coils to cause turbulent air flow along the exposed portions.

    • A dynamoelectric machine is provided with improved connection structure which does not require external leads and which provides an integral ground connection for the dynamoelectric machine. The dynamoelectric machine is a motor, which includes a stator assembly, having a motor winding which is terminated at the winding ends with quick connected terminals. The motor includes at least one end shield. A terminal receptacle is designed to mount internally of the motor endshield. The terminal receptacle includes provisions for holding the ground terminal positionally, and is provided with a spring loading mechanism for loading the receptacle against the endshield. The terminal receptacle has an external latch which receives an associated terminal block in locking arrangement, normally being accompanied with an audible signal. The receptacle preferably is color coded to give a visual indication as to motor rating or identifying different motor types, for example.

    • A HVAC system (10) employs a gas valve (20) to supply gas for combustion within a heating portion (12) of the system. An exhaust (22) removes combustion products using a motor (28) driven exhaust fan (24). An apparatus (34) controls combustion and uses a sensor (36) for sensing the rotational speed of a motor shaft (26). A switch (T1) is responsive to sensed motor speed to open and close the valve, the valve being opened only if the motor is operating within a predetermined speed range. A first speed discriminator (48A) enables of the switch to open the valve when the motor speed exceeds a first predetermined value. A second speed discriminator (48B) disables the switch to close the valve when motor speed exceeds a second and higher predetermined speed which is indicative of a blocked exhaust, or a fan blade is loose. This latter action insures that a build-up of potentially dangerous exhaust gases cannot occur.

    • A motor with a hollow housing with an open mouth defined by a side wall, and a cover for its mouth, an electrical motor circuit and power conductors electrically connected to the circuit at one end and adapted to be connected to a source of power at another end, has, when it is assembled, a current supply connecter receptacle.
