    • The instant invention is directed to a process for the preparation of glass constructions comprising applying to glass, compositions comprising(a) a polyisocyanate component and(b) a polyol component comprising at least one dihydroxy polyester carbonate with a molecular weight of from 800 to 3000 which is a reaction product of hexanediol-(1,6) with .epsilon.-caprolactone and/or .epsilon.-hydroxycaproic acid, in a molar ratio of hexanediol-(1,6) to .epsilon.-caprolactone and/or .epsilon.-hydroxycaproic acid of from 4:1 to 1:3, and diaryl carbonates, which reaction product is optionally present as a mixture with up to 40% by weight, based on the total quantity of said polyol component, of other polyols with molecular weights of from 62 to 4000, optionally containing ester groups,the quantities of the said components corresponding to an isocyanate index of from 80 to 130, or compositions comprising(c) an isocyanate prepolymer based on said polyols, optionally present in admixture with other polyisocyanates, and optionally(d) free- or blocked-diamine chain-lengthening agents.

    • The present invention is concerned with a new class of compounds prepared by reacting cyclic aminals of the formula ##STR1## with polyisocyanates of the formula R.sub.5 (NCO).sub.m+n to yield ##STR2## and with this process for obtaining said compounds, as well as the use of such compounds in polyurethane chemistry. If such compounds are free of isocyanates (n=0) they are useful as latent cross-linkers or hardeners activatable by heat or moisture. If such compounds carry free isocyanate groups (n=1 or 2) there are useful as synthetic resin precursors. In the above formulaem represents an integer of from 1 to 3, andn represents 0, 1 or 2, and the sum of m+n is 2 or 3,R.sub.1 represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon group which is optionally cyano-substituted and which has from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 5-10 carbon atoms or an araliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 7-10 carbon atoms;R.sub.2 represents a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms, at least two carbon atoms being situated between the two nitrogen atoms;R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are identical or different and represent hydrogen, aliphatic hydrocarbon groups having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon groups having from 5 to 10 carbon atoms or aromatic hydrocarbon groups having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms, or the two groups R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 together with the carbon atom of the heterocyclic ring may also form a 5-membered or 6-membered cycloaliphatic ring; andR.sub.5 represents an (m+n)-valent group such as that which can be obtained by the removal of m+n isocyanate groups from an (m+n)-valent polyisocyanate.

    • The present invention is directed to a process for the production of urethane- or isocyanurate-modified polyisocyanates based on a starting diisocyanate selected from (i) 2,4-diisocyanatotoluene or mixtures thereof with up to about 35%, based on the mixture, of 2,6-diisocyanatotoluene, (ii) mixtures of the diisocyanates mentioned under (i) with up to 80 NCO equivalent %, based on the mixture, of 1,6-diisocyanatohexane and (iii) 1-isocyanato-3,3,5-trimethyl-5-isocyanatomethyl cyclohexane by reacting the starting diisocyanate with substoichiometric quantities of polyhydric alcohols or trimerizing a portion of the isocyanate groups of the starting diisocyanate, removing sufficient excess, unreacted starting diisocyanate to obtain modified polyisocyanates containing at most 3% by weight, based on solids, of monomeric starting diisocyanate, characterized in that, the content of starting diisocyanate is further reduced by adding at least 10 mol-% water, based on the content of unreacted 2,4-diisocyanatotoluene or 1-isocyanato-3,3,5-trimethyl-5-isocyanatomethyl cyclohexane present, to the modified polyisocyanates.The present invention is also directed to the low-monomer polyisocyanates obtained by this process and their use as the binder component in one-component or two-component polyurethane lacquers.

    • The present invention is directed to a process for the preparation of air drying binders containing free isocyanate groups, having thixotropic properties and prepared by reacting aromatic diamines which have at least one alkyl substituent in the ortho position to each amino group with either prepolymers or semi-prepolymers containing free isocyanate groups and based on polyisocyanate mixture of the diphenylmethane series containing at least 20% by weight of 2,4'-diisocyanatodiphenylmethane and organic polyhydroxyl compounds or mixtures of these prepolymers or semi-prepolymers with prepolymers or semi-prepolymers based on other organic polyisocyanates, provided that the mixture contains at least 3% of the prepolymers or semi-prepolymers based on polyisocyanate mixtures of the diphenylmethane series. The invention further relates to the binders produced by this process and their use for the preparation of coating and sealing compounds which harden under the influence of atmospheric moisture.
