    • A CRT 10 has an evacuated envelope 11 comprising a funnel 15 having a neck 14 and an open end. The funnel 15 is sealed at the open end to a faceplate panel 12 having a luminescent screen 22 formed on a viewing area of an interior surface of the faceplate panel by an electrophotographic screening process. The screen 22 comprises a multiplicity of different color-emitting phosphor elements. A light absorbing matrix 23 has a first portion that includes a multiplicity of openings therein overlying the viewing area of the faceplate panel, and a second portion providing an imperforate border 123 extending beyond the viewing area. The phosphor elements are disposed within the openings in the matrix. A color selection electrode 25 is mounted within the faceplate panel 12, in proximity to the screen 22. An electron gun 26 is centrally disposed within the neck 14 for generating and directing a plurality of electron beams 28 toward the screen 22. The screen structure is improved by having at least one of the phospor elements disposed on the imperforate border 123 of the matrix 23.

    • An eye tracking system employs a first line camera that is configured to track horizontal eye motion and a second line camera that is configured to track vertical eye motion. Output signals from the two line cameras are applied to a processor which identifies and tracks eye motion, using a correlation or edge detection algorithm on boundaries between the sclera, iris and pupil. The system includes multiple controlled light sources and the horizontal and vertical line cameras are configured to track eye motion in response to light stimulus provided by the light sources according to a programmed algorithm. Eye motion for an individual is collected and compared to a model in order to obtain a measure of fitness for the individual. The device may also be used to derive inputs to a computer system based on eye motion or gaze direction.

    • A method for developing an electrostatic latent charge image formed on a photoreceptor 36 which is disposed on an interior surface of a faceplate panel 12 of a CRT 10 utilizes a developer 40 having a developing chamber 42 with a sidewall 50 closed by a bottom end 44 and a panel support 46 at the other end. An opening 48 is formed through the panel support 46 to provide access to and support for the faceplate panel 12. A panel grid 74 is disposed in proximity to said interior surface of said faceplate panel 12 and operated at a first potential to control the electric field from the latent charge image. A tank grid 56 is disposed within said developer 40 and spaced from the sidewall 50, the bottom 44 and the panel grid 74. A triboelectric gun 84 is disposed within the developer 40 for imparting a desired charge polarity to the screen structure material and for distributing the charged screen structure material onto the latent charge image. An electrometer 66 and a phosphor deposition monitor 90 monitor the deposition of the charged screen structure material onto the latent charge image; and a controller 68 terminates the deposition of the charged screen structure material when sufficient material is deposited. The Tank grid 56 is operated at a potential different from the potential on the panel grid 74 so that the tank grid 56 controls the electrostatic forces within the developer 40.

    • A method of electrophotographically manufacturing a luminescent line screen 22 within a viewing area of a faceplate panel 12 includes providing a matrix 23 having a border 123 extending beyond the viewing area. A photoreceptor 36 overlies the matrix. The photoreceptor is electrostatically charged and a color selection electrode 25, having a multiplicity of openings therethrough, is mounted therein. The panel 12 is positioned on an exposure device having a multi-position visible light source. A least one series of light exposures utilizes both first and second order illumination to form selectively discharge the photoreceptor 36 in the viewing area and on the border 123 of the matrix. Then, triboelectrically charged, color-emitting phosphor is deposited onto the illuminated areas of the photoreceptor to form phosphor lines in the viewing area and phosphor traps over the matrix border.
