    • Systems, methods and articles of manufacture are disclosed for searching chemical compounds referenced in chemical literature. References to chemical compounds in the documents may be transformed to corresponding references using a standard notation for representing chemical compounds. Criteria specifying desired molecular characteristics may be received. A regular expression may be generated based on the received criteria. The chemical documents may be searched using the regular expression. Based on the search, a chemical document may be determined that references a chemical compound satisfying the received criteria. Further, the regular expression may be generated based on the received criteria and a received mutation rule. Based on the generated regular expression and the chemical documents, one or more chemical compounds may be discovered that satisfy both the received criteria and the received mutation rule, but that is are not referenced in the chemical documents.

    • A computer-based method is provided for transferring data that includes a genomic sequence.     • Data mining techniques are provided which are effective and efficient for discovering useful information from an amorphous collection or data set of records. For example, the present invention provides for the mining of data, e.g., of several or many records, to discover interesting associations between entries of qualitative text, and covariances between data of quantitative numerical types, in records. Although not limited thereto, the invention has particular application and advantage when the data is of a type such as clinical, pharmacogenomic, forensic, police and financial records, which are characterized by many varied entries, since the problem is then said to be one of “high dimensionality” which has posed mathematical and technical difficulties for researchers. This is especially true when considering strong negative associations and negative covariance, i.e., between items of data which may so rarely come together that their concurrence is never seen in any record, yet the fact that this is not expected is of potential great interest.

    • A computer-based method is provided for deriving a genome of an individual. The method comprises the steps of accessing a selector for an individual and a reference template for a group genome, the selector comprising a locus value and a base value; and processing the selector and the reference template to derive a sequence representative of the genome of the individual. The reference template preferably comprises data components representing a probability of occurrence of a base value. The probability of occurrence is based on base value occurrences at corresponding locus values in the group genome. The method of the present invention further comprises computing a base value from the data component in the reference template, for base values not in the selector.
