    • A patient monitor system synchronizes patient data acquired by a plurality of sensor modules. Patient data from the sensor modules are synchronized by transmitting, from a patient monitor host, a start message that each newly connected sensor module uses to determine when to begin transmitting patient data to the patient monitor host. At a predetermined count interval, the patient monitor host also broadcasts an incrementing sequence count value to each of the connected sensor modules. The sensor modules use the sequence count values and the start message to determine when the patient monitor host expects each sensor module to transmit data packets. Each data packet sent by the sensor modules includes a sequence count value that the patient monitor host uses to align the various waveforms for display.

    • A patient monitor is synchronized with a portable sensor module by detecting a first coupling of the portable sensor module to the patient monitor. In response to the first coupling, the portable sensor module and the patient monitor each store configuration settings and record patient data acquired through the portable sensor module. After the portable sensor module is decoupled from the patient monitor, the portable sensor module continues to store patient data and the configuration settings stored in the patient monitor and the portable sensor module are allowed to change relative to one another. Upon detecting a second coupling of the portable sensor module to the patient monitor, the portable sensor module and the patient monitor resynchronize with one another to remove any differences in the configuration settings and to provide copies of any patient data missing from either the portable sensor module and the patient monitor.

    • A portable patient monitoring system may be configured to automatically identify a patient using remote sensing technology, such as radio frequency identification (RFID) or Long Wavelength ID (LWID). A patient monitoring system, such as a portable spot-checking monitor, may be brought in proximity with a patient in order for a remote sensor to receive identification information from an electronic identification device (EID), such as an RFID tag or an LWID tag, associated with the patient. The patient monitoring system may acquire data signals relating to the patient's physiological parameters. The patient monitoring system may process the data signals and generate patient parameter information. The patient monitoring system may then associate the patient parameter information with the identification information and store the information within a memory unit, display the information, and/or upload the information. The patient monitoring system may retrieve a patient identity using the identification information received from the EID.
