摘要： Compositions containing polyphenylene ether-poly(alkylene dicarboxylate) copolymers are prepared by a reaction between the two polymers and, optionally, at least one functionalizing agent therefor. The functionalizing agent may first be reacted with the polyphenylene ether and the resulting functionalized polyphenylene ether in turn reacted with a functionalized or unfunctionalized poly(alkylene dicarboxylate). Alternatively, an unfunctionalized or hydroxyalkyl-functionalized polyphenylene ether may be incorporated in a conventional polyester-forming reaction. The copolymer-containing compositions are characterized by a number of desirable properties including high impact strength and solvent resistance.

Also disclosed is a method of forming a coating on a substrate by applying the solution to the substrate and evaporating the solvent. Coatings formed from this solution are not subject to whitening as are coatings formed from the same polymers in other solvents.

摘要： Disclosed is a polyimide ammonium salt comprising the reaction product of an ethylenically unsaturated amine with an aromatic polyimide having pendant carboxylic acid groups, said polyimide comprising the reaction product of diamine and aromatic dianhydride, where the diamine comprises an aromatic carboxylic acid diamine having at least one carboxylic acid. A substrate can be coated with the polyimide ammonium salt by forming a composition of a crosslinking agent and a solution of the polyimide salt in an organic solvent, spreading the composition on the substrate, evaporating the solvent to form a coating, exposing at least some of the coating to actinic radiation to crosslink and insolubilize the exposed portions of the coating, and washing the unexposed portions away by dissolving them in an organic solvent.

摘要： A method for preparing high molecular weight polyetherimide ester polymers comprising:(A) preparing a polyetherimide ester oligomer by coreacting(i) at least one diol,(ii) at least one dicarboxylic acid or an ester forming reactive derivative thereof, and(iii) a set of reactants selected from(a) (1) at least one high molecular weight poly(oxy alkylene)diamine, and (2) at least one tricarboxylic acid or a derivative thereof, or(b) at least one high molecular weight polyoxyalkylene diimide diacid, at elevated temperature and for a period of time effective to form said oligomer; and then(B) further polymerizing said oligomer by a solid phase polycondensation procedure comprising heating said oligomer at a temperature effective to further polymerize said oligomer to a high molecular weight polyetherimide ester polymer but below the melting point of said oligomer.The instant process is useful for forming high molecular weight polyetherimide ester polymers suitable for production of extruded and molded articles.
