    • A method and apparatus for completing a natural solar distillation cycle (comprised of maritime trade winds being elevated over mountain formations to form orographic clouds) includes enabling the low cost harvesting of freshwater during time periods when weather conditions permit, despite the absence of rain. The cloud-catching wind management structures preferably incorporate minimal pressure drop gas cyclones to centrifuge condensate particles out of the air stream, and jet pump-like flow guide structures to help overcome pressure drop, for efficient, energy-passive production of freshwater utilizing only the stagnation pressure of natural wind velocity. The permanence (design and anchoring against natural disasters) of the structures provides for incorporation of water treatment means, and connection with permanent collection reservoirs and distribution systems, for large volume supply of potable freshwater for public and industrial use.

    • Absorbent articles having elastomeric end regions and methods of making such articles are disclosed. The absorbent article includes a bodyside liner and a garment-side outer cover. In particular embodiments, the liner includes a base layer of material and at least two strips or regions of elastomeric material attached to the base layer material with a space therebetween such that a center region of the base layer material is bordered on at least two end by composite regions of the elastomeric materials and the base layer material. In particular embodiments, the base layer material comprises a neckable non-extensible material. In other embodiments, the base layer material comprises an inherently extensible material. In certain embodiments, the composite region or regions can form a portion of the outer cover. Absorbent articles employing the material can have stretchable or elastomeric end regions.

    • A patient support device for supporting a patient at four points during back-related surgery. The device includes a generally rectangular frame having two opposing end members and two opposing side members. Two front posts are slidably mounted to one of the two end members. A travelling member is slidably mounted to both side members and may be displaced in a longitudinal direction between the two end members. Two rear posts are slidably mounted to the travelling member and may be displaced therealong, in a transverse direction between the side members. A front lead screw assembly is connected to the two front posts and allows simultaneous and opposing displacement of both front posts along the end member so that both front posts may be moved an equal distance from a center axis. Similarly, a rear lead screw assembly is connected to the two rear posts to allow simultaneous and opposing displacement of both rear posts along the travelling member. Each post includes a U-shaped channel to collectively accommodate a film cassette used in radiography. A conforming cushion is positioned above each post for contacting the patient.
