    • In a diesel engine controlling system having a fuel injection pump, a fuel injection timing adjusting device is controlled by a drive pulse signal whose duty cycle is controlled by a microcomputer. The duty cycle is determined such that a basic duty cycle obtained by using engine rotational speed and injection quantity, is modified or corrected by way of a correction factor and a forecast correction factor. The-first mentioned correction factor comprises an integration component and a proportional component both derived from the difference between a measured fuel injection or ignition timing and a desired or reference fuel injection or ignition timing, which is calculated by using the engine rotational speed and the injection quantity. The forecast correction factor corresponds to a differential value of the basic duty cycle or the desired fuel injection or ignition timing. In order to detect the fuel injection or ignition timing a timing detector is employed, where the state of an output signal from the detector is monitored to prohibit calculation of the difference or error, thereby correcting the basic duty cycle by only the forecast correction factor when the detector is in abnormal condition.

    • An electrical governor for a fuel injection pump with a spill ring comprises an acceleration pedal operating amount (PA) detector, an engine rotational speed (N) detector, a spill ring displacement detector, a maximum limit injection amount pattern memory for storing the relation between the engine rotational speed (N) and the maximum smoke concentration generating injection amount (Qmax), a partial load injection amount pattern memory for storing the relation between the rotational speed (N) and the partial load injection amount (Qpar) corresponding to the acceleration pedal operating amount (PA) with the acceleration pedal operating amount (PA) as a parameter, a minimum limit injection amount pattern memory for storing the relation between the rotational speed (N) and the minimum limit injection amount (Qmin), a target position pattern memory for storing the relation between the target injection amount (Qf) and the spill ring displacement target position (V.sub.SN), microcomputer means for reading out the values Qmin, Qpar and Qmax for the detected values PA and N and calculating the values Qf' and V.sub.SN ' corresponding to the detected values PA and N by interpolation, and actuator drive means for correcting the spill ring displacement in accordance with the calculated target position V.sub.SN ', thereby correcting the change in the fuel injection amount caused by the change in rotational speed. The governor alternatively includes a target position pattern memory for storing the relation between the values PA, N and V.sub.SN for a corresponding value Qf.

    • An electric governor for an internal combustion engine comprises an engine speed sensor, a phase shifter, a twin-T type filter and a multiplier for multiplying outputs of the phase shifter and the twin-T type filter. The twin-T type filter is arranged to vary its gain and phase in response to the difference between the peculiar frequency thereof and the frequency of the speed signal, whereby the multiplied outputs varies its amplitude and polarity in response to the frequency difference. A servo motor which is adapted to control the engine speed control mechanism is connected to the multiplier, so that the engine can be controlled to run at a predetermined speed which corresponds to the peculiar frequency of the twin-T type filter.
