    • In a picture reproducing apparatus, a scene changing point is detected with respect to contents, and then, a position where a temporal stopping operation is performed and a position where a reproducing operation is restarted are determined by using information of the detected changing point. In detecting the scene changing point, a plurality of threshold values are set to set a changing point level at the scene changing point. When the user instructs temporal stopping of reproduction of contents, the temporal stopping position is displayed to the user using the scene changing point level to allow the user to determine a temporal stopping position in a desirable level. When the user instructs restarting of the reproducing operation of the contents temporarily stopped, a reproduction restarting position is displayed by similarly using a scene changing point level to allow the user to determine a reproduction restarting position in a desirable level.

    • An object of the present invention is to provide a system startup method for automatically starting a function that is suitable for users at the time of system startup with the startup time of a system being shortened. A startup list is provided which describes which one or ones of program components in the system to be started at the time of system startup. When the system is started up, the program components are started according to the startup list.     • One or more sensors for detecting daily activity patterns are provided in a person's home. A data processing apparatus includes databases for storing activity data from the sensors, a statistical analysis section, an abnormality determination section, an evaluation section and a notification section. The statistical analysis section performs statistical analyses on the stored activity data and calculates thresholds for detecting abnormalities in daily activity patterns. The abnormality determination section compares the living behavioral values with the thresholds calculated by the abnormality determination section and determines abnormalities. The notification section notifies an observer's reporting apparatus of the abnormalities. The observer checks whether the person observed is actually abnormal or not, by communicating with the person; and the observer gives feedback about accuracy of the abnormality notification, enabling the apparatus to learn which daily activity patterns are optimal for the abnormality determination.
