    • A process for the production of a bisphenol compound comprising: a step for reacting a phenolic compound (a) with at least one compound (b) selected from the group consisting of dialkenylbenzene compounds, bis(hydroxyalkyl)benzene compounds and (hydroxyalkyl)-alkenylbenzene compounds or at least one compound (c) selected from the group consisting of monoalkenylphenolic compounds and mono(hydroxyalkyl)phenolic compounds in the presence of an acidic catalyst to obtain a reaction mixture containing said bisphenol compound, a step for neutralizing the reaction mixture with an anion exchange resin, a step for removing a remaining phenolic compound from the reaction mixture to concentrate the neutralized reaction mixture, and a step for isolating the bisphenol compound from the resulting concentrated mixture. This process enables to produce a bisphenol compound, which is useful for preparing raw materials of thermoplastic polymers, surface-active agents and stabilizers.

    • The aromatic diamine compound of the present invention is represented by the following formula (1), and from the aromatic diamine compound a polyimide having a repeating unit represented by the following formula (4), which has low-temperature adherability, can be obtained. In the formulas (1) and (4), n is an integer of 3 to 7, each R is independently an atom or a group selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom and a hydrocarbon group, the same or different two hetero atoms selected from nitrogen atoms and oxygen atoms bonded to each benzene ring are at the ortho- or meta-positions to each other on at least one benzene ring, and when n is 3, the hetero atoms are at the ortho- or meta-positions to each other on all the benzene rings.     • The present invention relates to a process for producing a substituted amine represented by the general formula (IV):R.sup.2 NHOR.sup.3 (IV)(wherein R.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or a heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon group, and R.sup.3 represents a hydrocarbon group or a heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon group), which comprises the steps of:(b) reacting a hydroxamic acid represented by the general formula (II):R.sup.1 CONHOH (II)(wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group) in the presence of a base with a reaction reagent capable of introducing a hydrocarbon or a heteroatom-containing hydrocarbon group to an oxygen atom and/or a nitrogen atom to form a substituted hydroxamic acid represented by the general formula (III): ##STR1## (wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 possess the same meanings as defined above),(c) hydrolyzing said substituted hydroxamic acid (III) in the presence of a base or an acid to produce a substituted amine represented by the general formula (IV):R.sup.2 NHOR.sup.3 (IV)(wherein R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 possess the same meanings as defined above). The present further relates to a method for purifying a synthetic intermediate for said substituted amine.
