    • A method has been disclosed for preparing a tabular silver halide emulsion wherein tabular silver halide grains having an average aspect ratio of at least 2:1, an average crystal diameter from 0.3 &mgr;m to 3.0 &mgr;m and an average thickness of less than 0.50 &mgr;m account for at least 50% of the total projective surface area of said grains, said method comprising the steps of precipitating, spectrally sensitizing and chemically ripening said grains, characterized by spectrally sensitizing by adding to the emulsion grains before chemically ripening at least one J-band aggregating spectrally sensitizing dye and at least one non-J-band aggregating dye. A light-sensitive silver halide emulsion having at least one J-band aggregating dye and at least one non-J-band aggregating dye comprising said tabular grains has also been disclosed as well as a light-sensitive silver halide photographic X-ray material comprising a support, at least one hydrophilic colloid layer on at least one side of said support and one or more photosensitive layer(s) comprising the said silver halide photographic emulsion and a radiographic screen-film combination comprising at least one X-ray intensifying screen in operative association with the said material.

    • A direct X-ray system for industrial radiography like non-destructive testing applications, and personal monitoring, being particularly less sensitive to pressure phenomena, has been disclosed, said system consisting of a direct X-ray black-and-white negative-working radiographic film material, comprised of a transparent support coated on at least one side thereof with a tabular grain emulsion layer, substantially free from spectrally sensitizing dyes, in which at least 50 percent of total grain projected area of all grains is accounted for by silver bromoiodide tabular grains having an iodide content of less than 5 mole %, based on silver, having an average aspect ratio of at least 2, and having a volume greater than 0.03 &mgr;m3, further characterized in that said tabular grain emulsion layer(s) comprise(s), in an amount of from 5 mg up to 100 mg per mole of coated silver bromoiodide at least one desensitizing agent having a hetero-aromatic part and an electron-withdrawing group and (2) disposed on opposite sides of the radiographic element, two intensifying screen sheets selected from the group consisting of lead, lead oxide, copper and steel, said screen sheets having been designed in order to emit electrons when exposed to X- or &ggr;-rays with an energy greater than or equal to 10 kVp.

    • A radiographic film material has been described for recording medical diagnostic images of soft tissue through exposure to light, emitted by a single intensifying screen, after having been subjecting to exposure with X-rays, emitted from an X-ray generating device with a tube voltage of 20 kV to 40 kV, and processing, including development, fixing and drying, within a time of 120 (and more preferably 90) seconds or less, wherein said film is comprised of a transparent film support, front and back major faces and an image-forming portion for providing, when imagewise exposed by light emitted by said intensifying screen and processed, an average contrast or gradient in the range from 3.0 up to 4.5, measured over a density above fog in the range of from 0.25 to 2.00, and wherein said image-forming portion is comprised of layer units permeable for aqueous processing solutions, said layer units being a hydrophilic front layer unit coated on the said front major face of the support wherein the front layer unit is capable of reaching a maximum density of more than 3.00; a hydrophilic back layer unit coated on the said back major face of the support; wherein sensitivity (speed), measured at a density of 0.50 above fog, is higher for the front layer unit than for the back layer unit in an amount of from 0.70 up to 1.70 log (Exposure); characterized in that both the front layer unit and the back layer unit have one or more light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer(s) coated with emulsion crystals, essentially having a cubic crystal habit.
