    • A container carrier is provided for use with a plurality of containers. The container carrier comprises a substantially planar flexible platform having a top, a bottom, an outer perimeter and an inner region including a handle and a plurality of container-engaging portions. The handle is made by forming two generally triangularly shaped openings through the sheet on opposite sides of and equally distant from the central axis of the sheet, the material between the openings comprising a strap. Two inwardly opening U-shaped openings are formed around the ends of the strap such that the central axis of the sheet is the line of symmetry of the U-shaped openings. The portion of the sheet bordered by the U-shaped openings comprises a first hinge and a second hinge integral with the first end and second end of the strap, respectively, which permit the strap to be flexed upwardly above the plane of the platform and provide access to the strap. A plurality of container-engaging portions integral with the inner region of the platform are provided. Each container-engaging portion defines an opening through the platform and has a plurality of spaced notches extending radially outwardly of the perimeter of the container-engaging opening forming a plurality of collars for releasably engaging the containers.

    • A process for forming, handling, affixing, and inverting a thin plastic half bag to a continuous inner side wall of an outer plastic container. A non-metallic mandrel is used as a tool for thermoforming a half bag over the top of the mandrel. The top of the mandrel with bag attached is inserted into an open end of the outer plastic container. A continuous stripe of heat-activated adhesive containing metal particles is bonded to the exterior of the half bag at the open end of the half bag. When the half bag is inserted, the stripe of adhesive is positioned near the midpoint of the container. A magnetic induction field generated near the container midpoint heats the metal particles in the heat-activated adhesive, thereby activating the adhesive. When the adhesive has been heated, compressed air is blown from the mandrel to press the bag and adhesive against the inner side wall of the outer container to cause bonding between them. After the field is removed and the adhesive cools, the mandrel is withdrawn from the thin plastic bag. Vacuum applied to the closed end of the bag from the top of the mandrel causes the bag to be inverted to the open end of the container as the mandrel is withdrawn.

    • An apparatus and process for the attachment of a bayonet handle having a barb head defining each end thereof to a carton blank. The apparatus comprises releasable clamping means for horizontally gripping the handles. Below the clamping means are support means for flatly maintaining carton blanks. A pair of blades, situated juxtaposed opposite sides of the clamping means, are retractable between an upward retracted position and a downward extended position near the support means. The clamping means are movable between an upper handle receiving position and a lower position near the support means by descending means.The process comprises first providing a bayonet handle. The handle is next bent in two places so that the barb heads are perpendicular to an interior section of the handle and are projecting toward respective apertures in the carton blank. Then, the handle is moved such that the barb heads are inserted into the respective apertures. Thus, barbs on the barb heads are engaged and the handle is attached to the blank.
