    • In a hydraulic control system for a vehicle transmission including a first throttle valve for producing a first throttle pressure for boosting a line pressure valve and a second throttle valve for producing a second throttle pressure for shifting speed stages of the transmission, the spools of the first and the second throttle valve are boosted by the first and the second throttle pressure supplied thereto, respectively, so as to reduce the force required for the driver to bias the two spools in parallel by stepping down on the accelerator pedal; the first and the second throttle valve are further supplied with the first and the second throttle pressure, respectively, in the feedback manner so as to attenuate the increase of the first and the second throttle pressure produced thereby; and a cut-back valve is provided to allow the supply of the first throttle pressure to the first throttle valve for the line pressure boosting and for the feedback control only when the vehicle is running at above normal speed.

    • A power take-off apparatus in an automotive vehicle equipped with an automatic power transmission including a rotary element arranged to be driven by a prime mover of the vehicle when the transmission is conditioned in a neutral position during stopping of the vehicle and to be arrested when the power transmission is conditioned in a forward position. The power take-off apparatus comprises a drive gear mounted on the rotary element for rotation therewith, a driven gear arranged to be meshed with the drive gear, an electrically operated shift mechanism including an electric motor, and a linkage connected to the motor to move the driven gear toward and away from the drive gear in response to energization of the motor, and an electric control circuit for effecting energization of the motor when the transmission is maintained in the forward position during stopping of the vehicle and for maintaining the motor in its deenergized condition when the transmission is shifted to the neutral position. The linkage of the shift mechanism is provided with resilient means for biasing the driven gear toward the drive gear when the former is engaged with an end face of the latter.

    • A full time four wheel drive transmisson system for a vehicle includes a gear transmission mechanism, driven by an engine, which is automatically controlled to operate in any of several forward ranges of speed stages including a drive range and a set containing one or more intermediate hold ranges in which the engagement of at least one of the upper speed stages included in the drive range is prohibited. The transmission system also includes a central differential device, driven from the gear transmission mechanism, which provides rotational power to the combination of the front wheels of the automotive vehicle and to the combination of the rear wheels of the automotive vehicle while providing differential action between these combinations. The central differential device has a clutch which when engaged at least partly inhibits its differential action. During vehicle operation, the clutch of the central differential device is engaged when the gear transmission mechanism is being controlled to operate in one of the set of intermediate hold speed ranges. Thereby, good vehicle high power characteristics and good engine braking characteristics are obtained. The engagement of the central differential device clutch further may be conditional on the engine throttle being substantially fully closed.
