    • A synchronous generator usable in both a starting mode of operation and a generating mode of operation includes a permanent magnet generator having a permanent magnet and an armature winding rotatable with respect to the permanent magnet, an exciter portion having an exciter armature winding and an exciter field winding rotatable with respect to the exciter armature winding, and a main generator portion having a main generator armature winding and a main generator field winding rotatable with respect to the main generator armature winding.     • A circuit in a power system for suppressing an AC ripple superimposed on a bus signal on a bus includes a first circuit for producing first and second signals having a frequency substantially equal to the AC ripple frequency wherein the second signal is a phase quadrature of the first signal, a second circuit for combining these signals with a signal representing the bus signal having the AC ripple superimposed thereon so as to derive a control signal having substantially the same frequency and phase as the AC ripple, and a third circuit responsive to this control signal so as to substantially suppress the AC ripple on the bus.

    • An electrical system control for a vehicle having a charging source, a first battery connected in series with a second battery to form a primary power supply that is connected to the charging source, and a third battery forming a secondary power supply. The system comprises a first bidirectional battery equalizer connected to the charging source and further connected to the second battery, a second bidirectional battery equalizer connected to the charging source and further connected to the third battery, and a controller adapted to monitor the state of at least one of the charging source and the first, second and third batteries.     • This invention relates to a VSCF system for aircraft power generation having a DC source, the DC source producing a substantially constant voltage DC signal. An inverter is coupled to the DC source and receives the DC signal, applying a PWM pattern of switching transients to the DC signal to produce an AC signal from the DC signal. The subject invention contemplates the addition of a DC link modulator comprising a ripple generator which varies the voltage of the DC signal to eliminate short duration switching transients in the PWM pattern. Variation of the DC signal allows short duration switching transients in the PWM pattern to be lengthened, thereby avoiding physical minimum time switching limitations in the switches of the inverter. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, an inverter controller provides a synchronizing signal to the ripple generator, which is coupled to a point between the DC source and the inverter.
