    • An engine control device that controls an engine having a brushless motor as a starter motor, wherein the control device comprises a pickup coil that outputs a pulse signal at a crank angle position set in a crank angle section where a load applied to the brushless motor in cranking the engine is light, said brushless motor including a stator, a rotor and a position detecting device that detects rotational angle positions of the rotor to output position detection signals which represent level changes at fixed crank angle positions of the engine, and the control device being constructed so as to identify a crank angle position corresponding to each position where the level of the position detection signal is changed, based on the output signal of the pickup coil and to obtain crank angle information from the level changes of the position detection signals to control ignition timing or the like.

    • A control device for a power trim unit for an outboard engine includes: a circuit that supplies a driving current to a power trim motor of the outboard engine from a DC power supply through an overcurrent protection switch and an H bridge circuit comprised of semiconductor switches; a trim angle control portion that performs control to cause a trim angle to reach a target value by performing PWM control of the driving current supplied from the DC power supply through the H bridge circuit to the power trim motor according to a deviation between the target value of the trim angle of the outboard engine and a trim angle detected by a trim angle sensor; and an overcurrent protection portion that turns off the overcurrent protection switch when overcurrent flows through the H bridge circuit.

    • An engine starting method for starting an engine by causing first fuel injection when a crankshaft is reversely rotated by a predetermined angle at the start, and then rotating the crankshaft forward to perform first ignition, the method comprising the steps of immediately stopping driving of a starter motor when a starter switch is turned off before the first fuel injection at the start; and continuously driving the starter motor forward until a cylinder into which an air/fuel mixture is supplied by the first fuel injection performs at least one exhaust stroke and then stopping the driving of the starter motor when the starter switch is turned off after the first fuel injection at the start.
