    • The present invention relates to a device for measuring light incident on an image-forming optical system, making use of a plural number of diffraction elements. The plural number of the diffraction elements are respectively provided in the optical path of the image-forming optical system. Further the plural number of the diffraction elements respectively have a certain predetermined area. The plural number of the diffraction elements, seen along the direction of the optical axis of the image-forming optical system, are substantially only partially overlapped with respect to each other. The light beam incident on a diffraction element is divided into a non-diffracted light beam and a diffracted light beam. Thus, the diffracted light beam is directed toward the light detecting means so as to be measured while the non-diffracted light beam advances along the above mentioned optical axis. Consequently, at the part at which the diffraction elements overlap each other, the non-diffracted light beam emerging from the preceeding diffraction element again enters the following diffraction element. This light beam is again divided into a non-diffracted light beam and a diffracted light beam by means of the following diffraction element. The diffracted light beam is measured by a light detecting means in the same way as in the above mentioned case, while the non-diffracted light beam advances along the above mentioned optical axis. Thus, the light beam which passes through the overlapping parts is measured a plural number of times.

    • A needle-type fluorescence sensor that measures glucose based on fluorescence produced by excitation light is provided. The needle-type fluorescence sensor includes a needle body section including a sensor portion disposed in a needle distal end portion and metal lines disposed from the sensor portion to a needle proximal end portion, and a connector which is integrated with the needle body section and in which the metal lines extend. The sensor portion includes a silicon substrate having first and second principal surfaces, a PD device that converts fluorescence into an electric signal, an LED device that transmits fluorescence and emits excitation light, and an indicator layer that interacts with an analyte under the excitation light to produce fluorescence. The PD device, the LED device, and the indicator layer overlap with each other above the first principal surface of the silicon substrate.

    • There are provided a method for screening individual cattle having useful economic traits in which proteins related to the economic traits of beef cattle are identified by proteomics and are used as biomarkers, and a cattle screening kit for use in the method. The method for screening individual cattle according to the present invention includes the steps of (1) harvesting body tissue from the cattle, (2) extracting the full complement of proteins from the body tissue harvested, (3) detecting a wild-type annexin A5 protein, an isoform of the wild-type annexin A5 protein, or a modified protein of the wild-type annexin A5 protein or the isoform thereof in the full complement of proteins extracted, and (4) determining whether or not the cattle will have a high average carcass weight on the basis of the type of annexin A5 detected. The wild-type annexin A5 protein, the isoform thereof, and the modified protein thereof are detected by two-dimensional electrophoresis or an antigen-antibody reaction.
