    • A magnetic disk device includes a flexible printed circuit board having a first portion provided with read/write ICs for read/write heads and first printed patterns connected to the read/write ICs and a second portion positioned within the first portion, an end of the second portion being connected to the first portion so as to be bendably projected from the first portion, the second portion being provided with a servo IC for the servo head and second printed patterns connected to the servo IC, the flexible printed circuit board being mounted on an actuator body such that one end of the first portion lies outside the actuator and the second portion lies on the actuator body. The magnetic disk device also includes first lead wires of the read/write heads extending to the flexible printed circuit board and being connected to the first patterns, and second lead wires of the servo head extending to the flexible printed circuit board and being connected to the second printed patterns. The first lead wires and the read/write ICs are on one side of an imaginary plane while the second wires and the servo IC are on an opposite side of the imaginary plane, the imaginary plane passing through the tip end of an arm structure and a shaft of the actuator body and being parallel to the shaft.

    • A magnetic circuit for a voice coil motor of flat-coil type used with a magnetic device is disclosed. The magnetic circuit is intended to flatten the torque constant curve for swinging the rotor of the voice coil motor while at the same time preventing the torque constant from decreasing. For this purpose, the magnetic circuit comprises an upper yoke and a lower yoke opposed to a flat coil arranged on the rotor, a pair of side yokes for coupling the upper and lower yokes to each other at the ends thereof, and a magnet arranged on the lower yoke. The magnet is shaped arcuate so that the width in the neighborhood of each end thereof in the direction of motion of the flat coil is larger than a standard width and smaller than the standard width in the portions of the magnet between each end and the central portion thereof.

    • A miniaturized optical disc memory is receivable in a slot, of about 17 mm height, normally accommodating a floppy disc drive. A base includes a base plate with integral, peripheral sidewalls and an internal lateral partition wall which define a cartridge receiving slot on the upper surface of the base plate. First and second support plates extend from the partition wall to the rear peripheral sidewall of the base and define respective, first and second upper mounting surfaces and lower first and second cavities respectively receiving an ejection motor and a fixed optical system, individual optical components being mounted and aligned on integral, precision machined blocks in the second cavity for transmitting a laser beam and receiving a reflected beam along a central, longitudinal optical axis beneath the base plate. A first base plate aperture accommodates a lens carriage driven in reciprocating motion along the axis for receiving and redirecting the laser beam vertically for scanning an optical disc and receiving a reflected beam and redirecting same to the fixed optical system. The movable optical system is locked in a rest position and is released by insertion of a cartridge to permit scanning movement thereof. A disc drive unit is mounted beneath the base plate for reciprocating vertical movement through a second aperture therein to a raised position for engaging and driving, in rotation, an optical disc of a cartridge inserted into the apparatus and to a lowered position for releasing the cartridge and permitting ejection thereof.
