摘要： According to one embodiment, in a magnetic disk, a plurality of first servo sectors is arranged at intervals in the circumferential direction. Each of the plurality of first servo sectors includes a first area and a second area. First information including a preamble, a servo mark, and a Gray code is written in the first area. The second area is disposed after the first area in a write and read direction along the circumferential direction, and second information including a burst pattern is written in the second area. The plurality of first servo sectors includes a plurality of second servo sectors and a plurality of third servo sectors. The circumferential length of a first area included in each of the plurality of third servo sectors is longer than the circumferential length of a first area included in each of the plurality of second servo sectors.

摘要： A data storage device having a housing member for a selected one of a 3½ inch form factor hard disc drive (HDD) or a 2½ inch form factor HDD. A spindle motor coupled to the housing member supports a rotatable data recording disc with a plurality of data tracks and an outermost perimeter. The outermost perimeter has an average overall radius of 48.5 millimeters, mm responsive to the housing member being for a 3½ inch form factor HDD or an average overall radius of 33.5 mm responsive to the housing member being for a 2½ inch form factor HDD. The rotatable data recording disc further has an outermost data track at an average selected radius such that the difference between the average overall radius of the outermost perimeter and the average selected radius is more than 1 mm.

A disturbance observer generates a disturbance compensation value which is applied to reduce position error resulting from application of mechanical disturbance to the control object. The disturbance observer includes an adaptive filter with at least one dead zone providing a pass-through response with a scalar gain of less than one.

Such a communication channel includes a digital filter configured for filtering an input signal and two quantizer configured for quantizing the filtered signal. A first quantizer is utilized to quantize the filtered signal to produce a first quantized sample having a first precision and a second quantizer is utilized to quantize the filtered signal to produce a second quantized sample having a second precision, wherein the second precision is different from the first precision. The communication channel also includes an iterative decoder configured for utilizing the first quantized sample for a first global iteration of a decoding process and utilizing the second quantized sample for at least one subsequent global iteration of the decoding process.

摘要： A disk drive is disclosed comprising a head actuated over a disk, the disk comprising a plurality of servo sectors defining a plurality of servo tracks, wherein the servo tracks form a plurality of servo zones. A servo data rate of servo sectors in a first servo zone is different than a servo data rate of servo sectors in a second servo zone. A boundary of a first servo zone overlaps with a boundary of a second servo zone over a transition zone. The servo sectors of the first servo zone are interleaved with the servo sectors of the second servo zone within the transition zone. At least one servo parameter is adjusted when the head is over the transition zone in order to transition between the first servo zone and the second servo zone.
